They're more steampunk-ish and paranormal mixed. I liked them well enough but they don't have the emotional intimacy that I look for in books, but they're solid 3 "frog" reviews for me. McCarty also writes regular historical romance and I've read all of those too--her Hells 8 series. Some are hits and some not so much for me but I still read them all.
