Rose Pascal is swept into a dark, haunting realm every year on her birthday, only to return home the next day. She dreads each visit…even as she craves appearing before the realm’s warrior king, a deliciously maddening man who has spent his life hunting and killing her kind—with good reason. They are supposed to be enemies, but neither can deny the passion sizzling between them. With time running out, can they find a way to be together forever?

Why I Read This Book: I love Gena Showalter's take on Paranormal Romance. Whether it's her Lords of the Underworld Series or her Atlantis series, Gena Showalter writes characters that have depth and authenticity, while also having extra powers and abilities. She's a auto-buy for me.

What I Liked: The world building and back story of Ever Night is solid. This is a novella, so Showalter could have either dumped information on the reader or cutback on the history and status of the characters and settings of Ever Night, but she didn't.

Ever Night is short and may feel like it's over too quickly for diehard fans of Showalter, but it lacks for nothing. Characters feel authentic, their experiences, history and conflicts are natural and the world of Nightmare is well developed and written in such a way that it's easy to imagine. Add a "Happily Ever After" to all that and this novella is pure gold.

What I Didn't Like: There's really not anything I didn't like about Ever Night. Well...except...I WANT MORE!

I know it's a complete cop out to complain about the size of a novella, but I don't see any indication that Ever Night is the beginning of a new series and I'm not done with the characters yet. I want to learn more about the Monstrea, about Vasili's brother Jasha, the struggles of the four kingdoms and what happens to the other Dimension Walkers. Quite simply, the novella is done, but I'm not.

Overall Impression: Ever Night is an excellent and comprehensive novella. Gena Showalter doesn't cut corners when writing with a lower word count and proves once again why she's a best seller. If you're looking for a quick, quality read that includes romance, inter-dimensional travel and the paranormal, you should definitely pick up this great novella.
