In a Nutshell: This book was my one and only holiday read this year. I enjoyed the story. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes.
What I Liked: I enjoy stories with large families (families by choice or by blood/marriage) and the O'Neils fit the bill – along with the requisite interference in each others' lives. I see Brenna as an adopted member of the O'Neil family.
Tyler and Brenna's connection was great – I definitely felt it. And oh the angst and internal conflict! Neither wants to ruin their friendship but they can't fight their attraction. Brenna doesn't think Tyler sees her as other than best friend or sister-type and he's worked very hard to keep it that way. Tyler sees himself as a failure in some aspects of his life.
What I Didn't Like: The end was a little cheesy in my opinion. I think Tyler's turn around happened a little too quickly. And Brenna just went right along with it! I think she forgave him awfully fast after he broke her heart.
Overall Impression: Enjoyable read for me. This book had a couple of my fave elements – friends to lovers and big, "helpful" families. I really liked Brenna and Tyler was okay for me although the end did lessen my enjoyment of the story.
I haven't read the other books in the series but didn't feel lost. I'm sure reading them would add more depth to the family ties but I didn't miss those pieces of the story.
Bab’s Rating:
I liked the first in this series, which was my first book by this author. In the first one, the ending also wrapped up a little too quickly and sweet for me, but I really liked the characters and the setting. It was a great winter/holiday read with all the right notes hit. :)
