In a Nutshell: I really liked this story. I love a growly hero and Ford definitely fits the bill for that!
Why I Read This Book: The Beyond series is one of my favorites.
What I Liked: Growly hero Ford! Growly but really softies-at-heart heroes are among my favorites! He’s like a wounded animal—attacking anyone who tries to help. I love that Mia sees through him and won’t put up with it.
Mia is trying to find her way on her own. In some ways she has. But in others, she feels a bit stifled by Ford. He wants to take care of her because he can see she doesn’t have much. But she’s been under the thumb of a “protector” in Sector 2 and wants to pay her own way. I like that she doesn’t let him just take care of her. She doesn’t take the easy way.
I like Mia’s guts—she stands up to Ford even when she has feelings for him. She is relentless in her determination to pay her own way. Things do have to come to a head—Ford goes too far in his effort to protect her and almost loses Mia. In the end they are able to resolve their issues and come to an understanding about who pays for what in their relationship.
Like the other O’Kane relationships, Ford and Mia have explosive sexual chemistry. I think their sexy times were super hot. The build up was really well done.
Overall Impression: I loved this story. Each Beyond book gives me more glimpses into the world outside Sector 4 and this one delivered with more about Sector 2. I really like the relationships in these books and the intricate world-building.
