In a Nutshell: Good contemporary MM romance but needed more plot.
The Set Up: Lawyer Nick finds out his boyfriend cheats on him but this may allow him and co-worker Marcus to explore the attraction between them.
Why I Read This Book: I like the friends-to-lovers trope that the blurb hinted at.
What I Liked: I enjoyed this romance. Marcus and Nick had a quasi-work friends relationship that progressed to a committed relationship. This development included both sexual and emotional intimacy that I need in my romance. For instance, Nick takes Marcus home to meet his parents in a very emotional intimate chapter. The eroticism is plentiful here, which I always want in my MM romance, and it’s well balanced with the men talking to each other about fears, hopes and plans.
What I Also Liked: It’s too rare in MM romance that there are meaningful female characters so I adored that in this book. Marcus and Nick work in an (erotic!) publishing company and the owner is a woman and Marcus’ best friend. She plays an important role in the book and in the men’s relationship. Marcus’ other bestie is an erotic romance writer and Nick has a budding friendship with the office assistant. I really enjoyed the banter and friendship between all these characters.
What I Didn’t Like: I hate to say this but this book got slow. It needed more plot or have the relationship development condensed. I kept waiting for a villain or more drama in addition to the romance development but it never materialized. I think Nick’s issue with his ex-boyfriend’s cheating could have provided the plot but it was primarily resolved before the men became lovers (and rightly so) but then the book lacked plot. The ending was expected with the ex-boyfriend but it came too close to the book’s conclusion for my taste.
IMO: Worth Waiting For is a good MM romance and I enjoyed reading it because of the characters and the relationship development, even if I wished for a bit more plot.
