Nick –Leader of the half-breeds and the last true hero. He’s spent his life fighting a dark pull toward the gods. A pull he now knows is linked to his father Krónos and the Titan’s plan to escape from the Underworld.
But Nick’s hidden powers are coveted by more than just his father. Imprisoned by Hades, Nick battles every form of torture imaginable as the sadistic god schemes to break him. Only one thing is keeping him sane. One woman who gives him the strength to fight the relentless darkness. She has a dangerous plan of her own, though, and as Nick’s powers grow stronger, even she might not be enough to alter his destiny.
As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, Nick’s allegiances are tested. And no one knows whether he will choose to fight for good or succumb to the sinister lure of evil. Not even him.

In a Nutshell: Decent enough quick read. I would have liked more emotional development between the leads though.
Why I Read This Book: I can’t give up series so I just keep going.
What I Liked: I love this world and the Argonauts. I like that we get to see them, especially Nick’s soul mate who’s married and in love with his brother, Demetrius. I *really* liked how that tension came to an end and think it was very different than most paranormal romances that use a mate/soul bond. Even Nick’s reaction to his soul mate bond was unique and made sense for his character.
What I Also Liked: I liked that Cynna and Nick both acknowledged Cynna sexual history with the bad guy, Zargeus, and accepted that Cynna needed that. Do I think romance traditionalist will have issue with that? Maybe, but I thought it made for a different romance read than than the usual virginal heroine and therefore I liked it, even if the BDSM flavor wasn’t to my vanilla-palate.
The plot kept my attention as well. The Argonauts are a group of fighters (when aren’t they in paranormal romance?!) but I like them so well, along with their mates that I enjoy reading about them working together to fight the bad guy.
What I Didn’t Like: The characters had lots of looping thoughts about how horrible they were. Cynna undeniably did horrible things to others, Nick included, and while she suddenly felt bad I never connected with her remorse or her self-forgiveness.
Additionally, Nick just “needs” Cynna. That’s the emotional development in the romance which isn’t enough for me. I want progression in my romantic relationships and here it was sudden and furious.
IMO: Series readers like me will have to read this one but newcomers should start at book one and be ready for this one when they get to it. If you start here you’ll be lost in the plot and likely not even fall in love with the characters.
