With college graduation looming, three childhood friends vow to make spring break their last blast of pure fun. But at least one of them didn’t count on such incredible heat…Layla Sharpe is definitely more math ninja than bikini babe, and her future has been calculated with razor precision. Convinced to let loose over spring break, Layla is finally ready to party—until her car breaks down halfway to her destination, leaving her stranded in Georgia with a mouthwateringly hot pool shark. She knows more than enough about angles to learn the game, but this week she wants him to appreciate her curves…
Phin Marks has never met a girl like Layla. She’s more Star Wars geek than seductress, and when he offers her a place to stay while her car is in the shop, he’s counting on the attraction between them to set the nights ablaze, no strings attached. But every moment he spends with Layla makes it harder to let her go. Can he persuade her to gamble in the most dangerous way possible…on forever?

Why I Read This Book: The blurb really drew me in to this book. Being a rather geeky gal myself, I wanted to see how this character was described and behaved. I’ve also got a soft spot for the name Layla (Eric Clapton anyone?). Throw in the game of pool can you have completely captured my attention. I also liked that, upfront, I knew that this book has a Spring Break time table so that my expectations are within a predetermined boundary. This just leads to less disappointment on my end.
What I Liked: I really liked Phin!! Not only was he hunky, had long hair, and a mysterious past, but he’s also handy! Naturally, our down and out geeky gal happens to bond with the mechanic who will be mending her vehicle. He’s quite delicious and just the right mix of personality and physical presence to balance out his mysterious background.
It was also nice to enjoy the more subtle things. Like the fact that Layla was a fan of casual sex (and her partner wasn’t bothered by that fact at all) and the idea that a man could be an oral virgin (both giving and receiving). While these may not seem like big things, sometimes the handling of these situations can immediately turn me off to the book. This was done well and was quite enjoyable!
What I Didn’t Like: Other than the fact that we don’t really get a lot of backstory on either character, this was actually a perfect little read!
Overall Impression: Short and sweet, Her Best Shot was just the kind of thing I was looking for in a contemporary romance read. While still abiding by the spring break fling operating structure, this book gave me more than I was asking for in all the right ways!

Billiards and the hero is a car mechanic? I need to check this one out!
ReplyDeleteYou should, I really liked this one, too. I thought it was sexy and a lot of fun, and I definitely want to read the other two books in the trilogy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm excited about the other two books as well. There wasn't a lot of information on the other characters that will be followed in those books, but I'm hoping it's more of the same awesomeness!
