Pack law dictates he must protect Taylor’s widow—Claire.
The only wolf Claire wants is the one who broke her heart two years earlier.
Instead of fighting for her, Nigel let pack law run him out of town. Now the sexy shifter’s back and their sexual chemistry is as combustible as ever. But Nigel is in line to be alpha, and Claire won’t be ruled by pack law ever again—it’s already destroyed more lives than Nigel knows.

Why I Read This Book: I love to throw some paranormal elements into the books I read. It doesn’t always have to be a major plot point that determines everything in the story, but more like an attribute of the characters and world the book inhabits. That’s how this book presented itself. The wolves and witches just are, and their traditions have always occurred, so it’s not some big production.
I was also quite curious as to why these two couldn’t be together and the circumstances that would bring them back into one another’s orbit. A lot of the time in the human world it’s business or accidental, but this didn’t sound like the case here and I wanted to know if/how that would affect their potential relationship.
What I Liked: The writing was quite captivating. Sometimes the writing can feel so forced or the characters very two-dimensional, but this time the writing really allowed for more fuller characters. Being a novella, time (or word count at least) was limited so by making the right choices these felt like very solid, individual people.
I also liked the limited scope of the characters and plot. It didn’t try to be more than it was. Important facts and people were identified, laid out, and then worked through in a usual manner, while still allowing for some heady love scenes. There is something about an animalistic sexual encounter that conveys a lot to the reader that I absolutely adore!
What I Didn’t Like: I should have paid more attention to the length. Honestly, while it was well-developed and planned, this could have been such a longer book! Maybe novellas just aren’t my cup of tea, but it would have been nice to get more in depth information on some of the rules and situations that crop up and drive the plot. It kind of felt like a lot of things were done “because that’s how they’re done” and that isn’t really all that satisfying for the reader.
Overall Impression: This was a great quickie read. If you’re looking for at least a little bit of depth in your characters to go along with their healthy sexual appetites, then I think this will be worth the few hours it takes to read.
