Reviewed By: BabsIt was meant to be a one-night stand. One night of passion. Scorching hot. Then Beth Cantrell and Eric Donovan were supposed to go their separate ways. That’s the only reason he lied about his name, telling her he was really his wild younger brother. Hiding his own identity as the conservative Donovan. The “good” one.
But passion has its own logic, and Eric finds he cannot forget the sable-haired beauty with whom he shared one night of passion. When Beth discovers that Eric has lied, however, she knows he cannot be trusted. Her mind tells her to forget the blue-eyed charmer. If only every fiber of her being did not burn to call him back.
Why I Read This Book: This is the final book in the Donovan Brothers Brewery trilogy. I glommed this trilogy over a weekend.
In a Nutshell: I adored this story. Best book of the trilogy.
The Set Up: Oldest Donovan Eric’s world gets shaken up when someone from his recent past (Beth) comes to the brewery to confront him.
What I Liked: I liked that Beth and Eric couldn’t get enough of each other. They were two adults embracing their sexuality and having hot sexy times.
I liked the reveal that Eric wasn’t as perfect as his siblings thought. Although that’s also a source of angst for Eric and I think is resolved successfully.
I also enjoyed Eric finding his place in the brewery—learning what he wanted to do with the brewery, being able to let go a little and figure out what he wanted, not just what he thought he should be doing.
Beth was also at a crossroads I think. Things were coming to a head at her work and she had to decide if she was going to embrace a job/business she loved or bow to pressure and get the “right” kind of job. She also had to decide if she could forgive Eric for what he did and keep seeing him. I admire her decision to not take the easy way out.
I like how other story lines were wrapped up in this book. Jamie revealed his deep, dark secret to the rest of the family—something he’d only shared with Olivia. Wallace got his happy-ever-after (or at least happy-for-now). Although I definitely would have liked more Wallace!
What I Didn’t Like: In the other books and for most of this one I thought Eric was very harsh and quite the a-hole. I think in the end he’s on the road to redeeming himself. In my imagination, the family relationship improves over the years following the end of the book.
Overall Impression: This is a great story and fabulous trilogy. I highly recommend it to fans of contemporary romance.
