INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Why I Read this Book: This book series was recommended to me by my library friend. She noticed my recent reading selections had slid to this deliciously dark place and thought this might be up my alley. After reading the description, there was no way I was going to be able to ignore Travis Maddox.

What I Liked: I LOVED the banter between the characters. America and Abby are the epitome of what best friends should be for one another and the heated exchanges between the lovers (Abby and Travis, and also America and Shepley) are quite believable. I’ve known passionate people and these couples are quite vocal! I also liked that, while Travis was the campus “one night stand,” he wasn’t an ass about it. He was always upfront with the women, no matter how badly they tried to tame him. Also, I adored his nickname for Abby and the reasoning behind it. Totally not giving that one away!

What I Didn’t Like: Hmmm… I’d have to say that while I did enjoy the way these two fall for each other, sometimes I felt like they weren’t being honest or forthright enough. Seriously, a lot of their arguments and issues could have easily been resolved if they’d had the guts to confront/talk to the other person instead of just reacting based on what they misinterpreted. Granted, this kind of falls under the “passionate” description, so take that with a grain of salt.

Overall Impression: Beautiful Disaster totally lived up to its reputation! While I did not see the ending coming at all (a bit sad, a bit exciting) I think it worked quite well for the storyline and the characters. If you like hunky, loyal, mildly brutish (in a good way) guys, then you won’t find a better one (in college) than Travis.

  2. Walking Disaster is the same story from Travis's POV and it's just as wonderful!
