Why I Read This Book: I’m always up for a shifter romance.
In a Nutshell: I liked this book. It’s not a favorite or something I will re-read but a good, quick paranormal romance.
The Set Up: Alexia is looking for a way to restore her dead father’s reputation and her search leads her to Blake.
What I Liked: Some people don’t care for growly, insta-love, “you’re my mate” thing but I can usually get on board with it. This book isn’t the best version of this I’ve read but I still liked the story.
I found this to be a typical shifter romance. The sex scenes were spicy. I thought Blake was the typical alpha male with skills, old but doesn’t look it, lots of disposable income/resources. I liked Blake more than the heroine Alexia.
I got the impression this could be a series—the setup is there for it. This can be read as a stand-alone book but definitely introduces some things at the end that opens it up to a possible series.
What I Didn’t Like: The “let’s have sex even though we’re in mortal danger” scene was a little much but didn’t take me out of the story. And Alexia seemed sort of weak physically and emotionally especially when compared with a powerful shifter like Blake.
I also didn’t quite get one scene where horses were cooperating with Blake in his shifter form when I’m pretty sure that would not happen in nature.
Overall Impression: I found Scratch to be an enjoyable read. This isn’t one to run out and buy right away but still a good read.
