"Love isn't rocket science. It's much, " much "harder. "

Determination and elbow grease propelled Greg London from blue-collar background to Ph.D. candidate. His single-mindedness doesn't leave a lot of room for a personal life, but that's the price of success. Besides, it's not like the boring nerd ever ends up with the hot guy.

Then his housemate, gorgeous undergraduate jock Marshall Sulkowski, invites him to watch a movie. In his room. Side by side on his bed. Needless to say, the sexual tension is wreaking havoc with Greg's focus.

Marsh seems to have it all-looks, charm, and a baseball scholarship to a great school. In reality, his father's cut him off, and he's floundering and desperate for a break.

One impulsive kiss leads to a red-hot affair that gets them a little bit of what they need to stay afloat. But as the end of the semester approaches and the pressure rises, Marsh realizes charm may have gotten him into his brilliant lover's pants, but he'll have to dig deeper to discover what they both need.

In A Nutshell: New Adult romance that made me want to holler more than a few times at the leads “TALK TO EACH OTHER ALREADY!” Still, I grew to really like the characters and their tentative relationship building.

The Set Up: Greg is in grad school totally focused on getting his doctorate and though he lusts after his gorgeous jock roommate, he’s got no time. Marsh is used to people writing him off as a dumb jock so while he’s willing to play with Greg he can’t imagine smart, career-driven Greg ever wanting a relationship with him.

Why I Read This Book: I really like this author’s other books and thought I’d give this one a try, even if it’s NA, a genre I don’t love.

What I Liked: I really grew to like Marsh and Greg’s relationship building once I accepted they weren’t going to simply talk to each other. I liked Marsh’s tentative attempts at asking Greg to have a relationship, and these totally going over Greg’s head. I loved the scene where Greg finally realizes how little Marsh values himself because it makes him understand Marsh in a way I wanted since novel’s beginning. This novel starts off erotic but the emotional intimacy really has to build and that’s what kept my attention in this book.

What I Also Liked: This book doesn’t try to do too much. It’s about Greg and Marsh and their lives. Marsh has issues with school and money and those issues aren’t miraculously fixed. I liked this as it made the novel feel hopeful but also realistic.

I also love how Marsh shows in deeds what he feels for Greg. This seemed very age appropriate but was still romantic.

What I Didn’t Like: I don’t love the NA genre because the characters don’t feel mature and that was the case here. This novel could have been a novella if Marsh and Greg just talked a tiny bit. I wanted to text them both to get a clue but that was the romantic drama here.

IMO: New Adult fans should absolutely read this erotic romance. Even this non-NA fan enjoyed Marsh and Greg’s fumbling romance with its big payoff.

  1. I may check this one out. I didn't realize there are so many distinct sub genres in romance titles.
