Landon's will lays it out: whoever gets the most new clients becomes the owner of Call Girls. Dixie has always been in it to win it, especially when it comes to Caine, who's made it clear he's not going down easy. (Oh, mercy.) Can Dixie really talk dirty and prove that she's cleaned up her act? Game on!
I was very curious to see how the phone sex element was going to play out between the ex-fiancés. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to find out since I DNF the book at 41%.
The set up was interesting enough, however the first sex phone call doesn’t take place until 38% into the book. The motivational texts sent by Landon beyond the grave were great. I just never liked Dixie’s character. She was a bitch in high school and though she kept talking about turning over a new leaf, she slips back into her old habits too quickly and too easily. There was too much drama and catty behavior from the women in this story, with a strong emphasis on gossip and reputations.
Then there were the things I was curious about but wasn’t sure if I’d ever get answers for. Like what exactly did Landon die from? And what was the cause of Dixie and Donovan’s broken engagement? It’s hinted at but I didn’t read far enough to find out if the official reason for the break up was ever given. I got tired of waiting and wondering what the heck happened between them. I kept thinking ‘just tell me already!’.
More of a side note: The hero’s name is Caine Donovan. Every time I saw his name, I thought of Donovan Cain from the Elemental Assassin series. This was a little distracting.
Ultimately, I found Dixie to be too unlikable. That, along with the sugar-coated verbal daggers constantly being spewed by the other women, forced me to call it quits.

The cover is cute! Wow! You folks don't mess around, do you? I do appreciate your honesty, though. It's refreshing. I'm told sometimes by reviewers that they don't like my heroines at first or that the heroine "grew" on them, so I'm always worried about my heroine coming off too bitchy or cold (like me, I guess!). That's why I have a couple of writer friends read them first to make sure my heroine comes off "sassy" and "spirited" but not strident and irritating. So, I feel this writer's pain! But I do appreciate candid reviews. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteWhile the book sounds pretty funny, I think I'll keep myself away from this book. I like sassy main heroines, but when it just gets TOOOO catty, I'm totally out. Thanks for the heads-up!
