In the town of Snowberry Creek, there is always hope…Wounded in combat, Leif Brevik is haunted by survivor’s guilt. For the first time in his life—unsure if he still has a military career in his future—he feels completely lost. So when a war buddy calls for help with the restoration of their fallen brother’s house, he jumps at the chance to regain a sense of purpose.
Zoe Phillips is assigned to monitor Leif’s physical therapy while he’s in town. But she’s a former military nurse, and she senses that his wounds are more than just physical. As she pushes the handsome soldier to open up, the connection between them deepens beyond the professional façade she tries to maintain.
And as Leif begins to put down roots in her beloved hometown, Zoe realizes that maybe having him around is exactly what she needs to heal her wounded heart as well…
Why I Read this Book: More Than a Touch is the second book in the Snowberry Creek series by Alexis Morgan. She has been one of my favorite Paranormal Romance writers, with her Paladin of Darkness and Talions Series, for a long time. Due to that, I wanted to see how she continued to develop the characters and relationships in this new and very different series of books about Military men and the women they fall in love with.
What I Liked: Leif and Zoe were very complex characters. They shared traumatic experiences in the military that they could not bring themselves to face. Although the experiences were different, the backlash was similar and gave them each a unique perspective about the others pain. Leif was lost, he could not find a purpose beyond his military career, even though many were presented to him. Watching him realize how his future could unfold was exciting. Zoe, was more focused and had roots, but seemed just as lost as Leif without really knowing it. Both wanted to be together, but didn’t know how to put their pasts and their futures in focus to make it happen.
Memorable Moment:
Overall Impression: More Than a Touch was a heartfelt romance about a military man and woman trying to find their ways around injury and re-acclimating to civilian life. It allows the reader to catch up with friends they made in the first book, while enjoying this second book and make some new friends that I know we will enjoy in book 3.
