Love is just around the corner . . .Sweet, shy Mara Hanover is in love with her neighbor. For four years, she has secretly watched her dream man from afar. Handsome police detective Mitch Lawson is way out of her league. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and there's no way a guy like Mitch would want anything to do with her. But when Mara has a leaky faucet that she can't fix, it's Mitch who comes to her rescue.
Mitch has been eyeing his beautiful neighbor for a long time. He jumps at the chance to help her, and soon their formerly platonic relationship gets very hot and heavy. But when Mara gets a disturbing phone call from her cousin's kids, she gets pulled back into the life she's tried so hard to leave behind. Can the hot law man convince Mara to let go of her past-and build a future with him?

Why I Read this Book: The synopsis of Law Man totally caught my eye. Alpha heroes and awkward heroines are one of my (many) guilty reading pleasures. They're like sexy, Cinderella stories that I can easily gobble down like candy. Which is what I did. I read Law Man in an afternoon and then read the other 3 books in Kristen Ashley's Dream Man series over the rest of the weekend. It was so worth it!
What I Liked: The main characters, Mitch Lawson and Mara Hanover, are fantastic. I've already confessed my love of Alpha's and their awkward ladies, but even I, who's read some crappy books, need more than these singular traits in characters. Kristen Ashley delivers when it comes to Mitch and Mara – they are genuine. Through the story we see them grow as individuals and a couple and they are written in a way that makes them seem real enough to be your neighbour. *Dreams about having a neighbour like Mitch. Drools*
What Else I Liked: In Law Man, Kristen Ashley successfully writes child characters within a steamy romance novel. Writing kids into a Romance novel is a crap shoot. It's easy for kids to be written as 2-dimensional filler characters, to disappear for huge portions of the books or, to be honest, just generally be annoying. (I read one novel in which all of the child character's dialogue was written with a lisp. ALL.OF.IT!) Kristen Ashley's Bill and Billie (no joke) are great. They are both written as there age would suggest and are a legitimate part of the story.
What I Didn’t Like: There's a fine line between an Alpha hero and a plain, old asshole and there was more than once that I wanted to hit Mitch Lawson with a large, blunt object. This is really subjective though, my alpha to asshole ratio might be higher or lower than someone else's. I get that.
Overall Impression: These kind of books for me are pure escapism and that's why I love them. If you like books with a Cinderella-type vibe, strong, manly men and strong but sweet heroines you should definitely check Law Man and pretty much all of the books in Kristen Ashley's Dream Man Series.

Yes! I love this series; it's crack-tastic :)
ReplyDeleteI've only read Motorcycle Man from the Dream Man series but it was crack-tastic. I need to go back and read this series from the beginning.
