In a Nutshell: Average shifter romance that series fans will enjoy but I found meh.
The Set Up: Veterinarian Tatiana doesn’t want to accept she’s half Amoveo, an ancient race of shapeshifters but when the Amoveo King asks her for help with his poisoned horses, she visits his ranch. There Tatiana meets Dominic, the King’s Guardian and tiger shifter and learns they’re mates. Dominic will lose his powers if he doesn’t claim Tatiana as his mate but Tatiana isn’t willing to allow fate to control her life.
Why I Read this Book: I’ve enjoyed other books in this series.
What I Liked: This romance is fine. It’s the classic mate trope so if people enjoy that this will hit the spot. Both Dominic and Tatiana know their mates and they share sexual chemistry but Tatiana isn’t willing to allow fate to control her. She distrusts Dominic’s claim of emotional involvement which was the only thing I found interesting about the romance. Dominic declares himself long before Tatiana and he acknowledges his mistakes in rushing her. I liked this but everything else was classic shifter romance.
What I Also Liked: The side plot of the healer Steven and his mate is what will keep me reading the next book. I didn’t see the ending of this book coming in regard to Steven and don’t think other series readers will either. How this will work out is what will keep me reading the next book in this series, otherwise I may have stopped reading it.
What I Didn’t Like: Other than the things I mentioned, this romance didn’t wow me or even interest me much. It felt like Tatiana was reading from a script fighting her mate status but being drawn to Dominic. I don’t fault the book too much since it’s the classic shifter trope that I’ve come to expect but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed the romance all that much.
IMO: Series fans will read this book and likely enjoy it but newcomers will be lost with all the secondary characters. Readers looking for more nuanced romances should pass on Unclaimed, but if you want a simple mate trope romance than it will fit the bill.
