Jeanie loves a New Species and is willing to pay for that love with pain, tears and heartbreak. She’ll do anything to keep 710 alive but she never wants him to know how she suffered for him. He’s the reason for her mission in life—freeing others like him.
True has a new life working with the NSO to rescue his people. A good life, until he encounters a dying woman—the female who betrayed him. True should feel gratified that she’s finally going to pay for her crimes, but she claims to be a victim too. He is still irresistibly drawn to the pretty little human who touched his heart and made him want her. When he clasps her hand to offer comfort, his instincts kick in and True will fight everyone to protect her.

In a Nutshell: This book uses the same formula as the previous ten in the series but it’s comfortable, both in the romance and the suspense plot.
The Set Up: When True was a tortured prisoner he had a soft spot for one of the medical personnel, Jeanie. Jeanie made a terrible sacrifice to keep True alive until he was rescued by the New Species Organization. But when Jeanie and True next meet, he and the other New Species believe she was a willing participant in their torture and determine to make her pay for her crimes. True learns there is more to Jeanie’s story but while they explore their mutual attraction, the real traitor is trying to silence Jeanie.
Why I Read this Book: I’ve read this entire series which for me is like junk food that I just can’t quit.
What I Liked: This book is like all the others with its simple and erotic romance. Jeanie and True have insta-lust which is always fun in a book. This series uses the classic mates trope with the slight twist that the New Species men, like True, have an innocence about relationships. True was a prisoner for most of his life so he hasn’t had relationships and he wholeheartedly throws himself at Jeanie. This is always the best part of these books as the New Species men have such intense lust and love for their mates. The human women, like Jeanie, want the relationship to mean more than sex so tension is present but it’s not angsty or overdrawn.
What I Also Liked: I like series in general because it allows for serious world building and that’s true here too. A character I knew was evil in book one reappears here as the true bad guy and I like this immersion in the New Species world.
The other great thing this series does is offer a million more leads for future books: the feral “numbers” New Species who detest humans; Jericho, everyone’s buddy; Darkness, the mysterious ex-mercenary without a heart; Breeze, a female New Species and everyone’s little sister. This community of characters is part of the charm of this book and the series.
What I Didn’t Like: This is about as formulaic as a book, and series, gets. Nothing happens that surprised me or was all that different than in the previous ten books. It’s like gorging on a bag of chips; you know you need to stop but you just keep eating those empty calories!
IMO: This erotic and simple romance is pure reading junk food but I can’t quit so I’ll await book twelve.
