Jeffrey Kuyper was a once-in-a-generation talent and I was his muse.

Jeffrey's death shocked the art world and upended my life. His last portrait is an intimate reminder of our final weeks together. Now it's up for auction and I want it more than anything. When a cold-mannered man in a dark suit outbids me, I'll agree to anything to buy it from him--even a weekend in his bed

BDSM isn’t my thing and I wouldn’t have read this if the synopsis even hinted it was a BDSM novella.  I admit to enjoying vanilla eroticism and this most certainly wasn’t that!

Still, I appreciated how the author connected the narrator’s refusal to share his name with his weekend Dom to him withholding his emotions. This added a nice, though thin, layer of emotions to the otherwise purely sexual relationship. The author also did a good job of having the narrator use this sexual relationship to purge the grief over the death of his previous Dom and lover.

Finally, this is barely a HFN ending so the hopeless romantic in me didn’t get even a token HEA for my reading a BDSM erotic novella. If BDSM is your thing then you’ll love this sharp little novella but it wasn’t for me.
