Thursday Thirteen: Mobile Apps I Cannot Live Without

Thursday Thirteen

Thursday Thirteen is a weekly meme with a simple theme: each Thursday you blog a list of 13 things. What kind of things? Any kind! Just come up with a list theme and run with it.

Brianna’s List (iOS apps):

  1. Echofon. My favorite Twitter app from all the ones I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot of them. I've been using it for 3+ years and haven't found anything better.
  2. Kindle. I do most of my reading on my iPad.
  3. WeChat. How I stay in communication  with J9. We used to use the IMO app but with each update, I was liking it less and less. We just started using Wechat but I can already tell it's a better chat app.
  4. Flipboard. To stay up to date on current events. And my celebrity gossip.
  5. Pocket. The place where I save links to read later.
  6. Feedly. One of the apps I check first thing in the morning.
  7. Goodreads. I use this almost daily to track my reading.
  8. Astrid. An awesome to do list app.
  9. Instagram. I love photography. I love to look at it and I love to create it.
  10. IMDb. I always look up new-to-me actors and actresses, movies, and TV shows. My favorite part of IMDb is the trivia section.
  11. Zinio. I recently found out my library loans out digital magazines.
  12. Grocery iQ. I can track prices and see how much my cart adds up to as I shop.
  13. Wikipedia. I look up all kinds of stuff here.

    1. I've been wanting to try out Tweetbot but they don't have a free version to test drive. Drives me nuts. I'm very particular about which Twitter app I use, so if I'm going to shell out $ for an app, I have to be able to make sure I'm okay with how it operates. (And I don't mind paying, I just don't want to pay then find out I don't like it.)

  3. Gotta love OverDrive for library ebooks (plus, if you live in CA you can get a San Francisco Public Library card the next time you're in the city...tons and tons of m/m ebooks through their OverDrive page!)

    1. You don't have to live in San Fran, or the immediate area, to get a library card? Just live in CA?

    2. How very cool! My library has no MM ebooks for loan.

    3. Nope; I live a good 2 hours away from San Francisco. The only glitch (besides being a state resident) is that you have to come in person to get the card at first (but then you can check out ebooks remotely via OverDrive). San Jose's library has a few, too (several Harmony Ink titles, plus some David Levithan and Megan Derr)--you can apply for that one online, but you'll still have to present state ID in person within the month (and I don't know if the temporary card number works on OverDrive)...

    4. Thanks for the tip! That would totally be worth the trip to the city. My town is seriously lacking in romance ebooks and I don't think they have any m/m books at all.

    5. I use OverDrive for audiobooks on my iphone. It's easier than downloading to my computer. You can download them straight to phone.

    6. I forgot--if you have Adobe Digital Editions enabled for your device (All Romance's Digimonkey pages have step-by-step advice for the Kindle Fire; not sure what other ones involve), you can also use Enkilibrary.org with your SF Library login and OverDrive. That site has some Jay Bell books, the full Psycop series by Jordan Castillo Price, and some Kallysten titles (among others; I've also found some very cool music-related ebooks there). And though it's not an app, you can use the Link+ library system to call up print books from one system library and reserve them at another (it can take a while, there's some fine print you should read first, and I don't think they'll officially do it south of San Jose, but it's worth a try--lots of Samhain print books at SFPL, including m/m).

  5. I am totally addicted to Instagram. I'm on it all the time.
That and Pinterest. And Candy Crush - I both hate and love that game.

  7. Everything we use is almost identical. I've tried EVERY other twitter app out there - even paid for them. I always come back to Echofon. And I love Zinio! I don't subscribe to any paper magazines anymore. I use a super simple to do list app called Clear. No bells and whistles on it - but it works for me because of its simplicity.
