The Book Vixen has a new look!
I’ve been thinking about giving The Book Vixen a new look for a while now and I finally went and did it. As much as I liked my 50s vixen with her fishnet stockings, it was time for a change. So she has retired, at least for the time being. The new look went live last night and I’m so excited to show it to the world. To refresh your memory, here’s what the previous design looked like:
As you can see, the new design is completely different. Different feel, different color palette, just all around DIFFERENT. It’s still shocking for me to see, even though I’ve been nose deep in working on the new design for the past week. I wanted a simple, clean, streamlined look and I think I accomplished just that.
With the new design comes a new button. If you would like to put The Book Vixen button on your site, or update the one you currently display, here’s the grab box:
This was my first real attempt at creating an entire blog design on my own, and let me tell you, I learned A LOT. I finally learned how to use GIMP, which I had been dreading to try out. It was just so intimidating, what with all its tools and capabilities, that I didn’t even know where or how to start. But I took the plunge and dove right in, and with the help of some tutorials I was able to accomplish what I wanted. (For those who don’t know what GIMP is, it’s a free alternative to Photoshop. I’ve never used PS before, and I’m sure PS is better than GIMP, but GIMP serves its purpose and serves it well.)
Thank you Amanda, J9, and Sophia for your valuable input. Amanda, I appreciate the critics you made. You have an eye for detail, plus you put up with my endless emails. Thank you Rachel for creating my 50s vixen, complete with her fishnet stockings. She has served her time here well for the past 3 ½ years.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I do love when blogs use avatars, etc., this looks great! I'm impressed you did it yourself. I could never do that!
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to let go of my Vixen. I got so used to there being a face to the blog, so to speak.

I can easily lose a few hours to GIMP :)
DeleteI know I mentioned to you on Twitter, but I do like the update. Great work - and to have done it yourself is an awesome accomplishment. I created my first two blog designs, and I didn't do nearly the work you have for this... It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad everyone is loving the new look!
