In My Pocket is a weekly feature where J9 and I share some of the links we’ve collected in Pocket. (To find out what Pocket is and how to use it, check out my tutorial on Pocket.) Some links will be book-related while some may be off-topic. Who knows what you’ll find in our Pocket ;) And if you use Pocket, we invite you to share what’s in your Pocket as well.
In J9's Pocket:
- Interesting opinion by Jane of Dear Author on What Is Wrong With the C Review.
- Babbling About Books, and More had post about yet more plagiarism, this time involving some M/M authors.
- Gay Sci-Fi Author David Gerrold Slams Orson Scott Card Over "Tolerance" Plea.
- Any girl coming of age in the late 1980's will list the movie Dirty Dancing as important in our social development. This stellar opinion piece explores why the movie is a Subversive Masterpiece.
- It's the height of harvest in the Midwest so I'm happily making all sort of veg dishes. Here's the next thing I'm going to try: Homemade Pickles Require Just Three Ingredients.
- Bri knows how much I adore The Simpsons and put this great link in my Pocket.
In Brianna's Pocket:
- US National Team of Swimmers were asked if they’ve ever peed in the pool.
- A teacher wears the same outfit each year for his yearbook picture for the past 40 years.
- I came across a Tumblr that made me laugh – Idiots in My Inbox. From the site: “All too frequently, I find myself ranting about outrageous pitches or review requests. I know, I could ignore them but it’s far more fun to share them with all of you. Enter this tumblr page, dedicated to sharing the truly idiotic pitches/tweets/requests received by one unfortunate book blogger.”
- People (authors?) attacked a book blogger and demanded a promo post be removed (in which a so-called author was featuring a book she actually plagiarized from another author) without providing any concrete evidence. And they had expected her to remove the post within an hour. You know, because we book bloggers don’t have lives and sit in front of the computer 24/7. Color me pissed. The book blogger handled the situation well.
I still don't understand what is wrong with people sometimes. The attack to the blogger was intense and brutal, but she had done nothing wrong. And I agree with you, she was nice and very right in her actions, didn't rush without evidence and tried to calm the masses.
ReplyDeleteShe handled the situation better than I probably would have. LOL I definitely give the blogger kudos for not acting impulsively and for not pulling the post down until she saw evidence of the accusations.
DeleteAwesome links-adored the Simpsonized people as I'm a big fan of The Simpsons myself!
