My Bookish Wants & Gots is a monthly feature that will post on the first Saturday of the month. I list the books I want - which can be old, new, or upcoming releases - and the books I recently got. My Bookish Wants & Gots was inspired by Book Chick City’s On My Wishlist and the Mailbox Monday meme.
The Hostage Bargain (Taken Hostage by Hunky Bank Robbers #1) by Annika Martin
When small town girl Melinda Prescott is taken hostage by three hot bank robbers, she quickly discovers that a life of bank heists, luxury hotels, and kinky ménages is way more exciting than working on the family farm. She should be scared of her dominating, fierce captors…but there’s something wicked inside her that’s craving to obey their every dark desire.Melinda eagerly throws in with her three smoldering fugitives…and soon realizes that these are no ordinary bank robbers—and that bad guys aren’t always who they seem. But will her delicious captors overcome their own demons enough to let her in? And can these underdogs fight an evil conspiracy that’s larger than all of them?
Warning: This book contains a sexy bank-robbers-and-their-captive sandwich, light bondage, spanking, teasing hints of domination, and a little play-time in a hot tub. Oh, and some all-too-delicious alpha heroes who bend the heroine to their will.
Buzz for this book was actually going around some time ago. It caught my attention but then I forgot the title. I recently remembered it (with the help of Twitter) and now I want to read it. It sounds like an interesting read.
The Christmas He Loved Her (Bad Boys of Crystal Lake #2) by Juliana Stone
All he wants this Christmas is her.In the small town of Crystal Lake, Christmas is a time for sledding, hot chocolate, and cozying up to the fire with those you love. For Jake Edwards, it’s also time to come home and face his past. He thought there would never be anything harder than losing his brother. Turns out there is: falling in love with his brother’s widow, Raine.
Ever since they were little, Jesse was the Edwards brother who was always there for her, and Jake was the one who knew just how to push her buttons. Raine can’t imagine a life without them, which is why it was doubly decimating when Jake left town after his brother’s sudden death. Now he’s back and she doesn’t know whether to be mad or thrilled. Maybe both. Maybe it will be the perfect chance for both of them to finally find happiness again.
I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series, The Summer He Came Home. The tension between Jake and Raine was thick! I’m not sure how I feel about them being together, considering the commonality they share, but I sure want to find out how it goes.
Against the Dark (The Associates #1) by Carolyn Crane
SHE’S AN EX-SAFECRACKER FORCED INTO ONE LAST HEISTAngel Ramirez left the safecracking game five years ago, and she’s worked hard to make amends and build an honest life. But when a beloved aunt is kidnapped, she must reunite with her girl gang to acquire the unique ransom: Walter Borgola’s prized diamonds. It’s a simple job that turns into a nightmare, thanks to a surprisingly clever—and searingly sexy—security guard named Cole Hawkins.
HE’S AN UNDERCOVER AGENT WITH BIG PLANS FOR HIS GORGEOUS THIEF
Cole is one of the Association’s most brilliant agents, under deep cover investigating a ruthless killer. He’s also running out of time: hundreds will die if he doesn’t stop the plan Borgola’s set into motion. Catching Angel is the break he needed--he promises not to turn her in if she poses as his lover and uses her unique talents to unlock the sociopath’s dungeon vaults.
But as pretend passions turn real, Cole regrets drawing Angel into his deadly game…and danger is closer than either of them could ever imagine.
The blurb reminded me a bit about The Italian Job movie (the remake). Charlize Theron rocked the role of the safecracker. But the movie lacked in the romance department, which I’m sure won’t be a problem with Against the Dark.
Surrender Your Love (Surrender Your Love #1) by J.C. Reed
Meeting Jett was like lightning. Dangerous. Better left untouched. And better forgotten. But lightning always strikes twice.Brooke Stewart, a realtor in New York, doesn’t do relationships. When she’s sent to a remote estate to finalize a real estate deal, she discovers her new boss is no other than the guy she left naked in bed.
Sexy, dangerously handsome, and arrogant Jett Mayfield attracts trouble, and women, like a lightning rod. But the night he meets Brooke he gets more than he bargained for. The green-eyed millionaire playboy isn’t used to taking no for an answer, and he isn’t about to start now.
When he proposes two months of no strings sex, Brooke is intrigued and accepts his proposal. Little does she know Jett’s determined to claim the one woman he can’t have, pulling her deeper into his dangerous world.
A man who doesn't take 'no' for an answer.
A woman afraid to surrender to love.
Two lives that are about to cross...and secrets laid bare.
I have seen this book cover everywhere. It’s nice to look at, and the title stuck out for me, but I never read the blurb until recently. And now I want. I like when casual relationships turn into more, especially when one of the involved party’s mindset is to keep things strictly casual.
Two of a Kind (Fool's Gold #12) by Susan Mallery
Felicia Swift never dreamed she'd hear a deep, sexy voice from her past in tiny Fool's Gold, California. The last time Gideon Boylan whispered in her ear was half a world away…on the morning after the hottest night of her life. Her freaky smarts have limited her close friendships, and romance, but she came to Fool's Gold looking for ordinary. Gorgeous, brooding Gideon is anything but that.Black Ops taught Gideon that love could be deadly. Now he pretends to fit in while keeping everyone at arm's length. Felicia wants more than he can give—a home, family, love—but she has a lot to learn about men…and Gideon needs to be the man to teach her.
As these two misfits discover that passion isn't the only thing they have in common, they just might figure out that two of a kind should never be split apart.
Got this one for review. This is one of my all-time favorite series and I just can’t get enough of this town and its residents. I love that the author/publisher releases the books in trios plus one or two novellas each year. They can be read as stand alones but I don’t want to miss a thing that goes on in Fool’s Gold so I read them all.
Three Little Words (Fool's Gold #13) by Susan Mallery
Isabel Carlisle thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another...man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again....Seeing Isabel all grown up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes-or his lips-off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever-if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same....
Also for review.
Heart of Venom (Elemental Assassin #9) by Jennifer Estep
When a terror from the past threatens Gin’s friend and body-disposer, Sophia, Gin will stop at nothing to protect her, even if it means walking straight into a killer’s trap. Meanwhile, the rocky romance between Gin and Owen reaches a turning point—can they reunite and rekindle their love? Or will the things Gin has been forced to do in her line of work as the deadly assassin the Spider keep them apart forever? Assuming, that is, she survives long enough to find out…
For review. I absolutely love this urban fantasy series. I want to read this book RIGHT NOW but I’m going to be a good little vixen and catch up on my reading first. I am eagerly looking forward to reading this one.
Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan
Four masked men -- thieves, rivals, and friends from the tough streets of Charlestown -- take on a Boston bank at gunpoint. Holding bank manager Claire Keesey hostage and cleaning out the vault was simple. But career criminal Doug MacRay didn't plan on one thing: falling in love with Claire. With a tenacious FBI agent following his every move, Doug imagines a life away from his gritty, dangerous work. A life centered around Claire. But for Doug, that new life is just one final, perfect job away....Racing to an explosive climax, Chuck Hogan's brash tale of robbery in all its forms is an unforgettable odyssey of crime, love, ambition, and dreams.
Sound familiar? This book was turned into a film that went by the name Town, staring Ben Affleck. I’ve only caught snippets here and there from the movie but what I did see intrigued me. So I got the book.
The Witness by Nora Roberts
Daughter of a controlling mother, Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.Twelve years later, the woman known as Abigail Lowery lives on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she designs sophisticated security systems—and supplements her own security with a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. But Abigail’s reserve only intrigues police chief Brooks Gleason. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, and her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something—and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed.
I finally got this one! From PBS too. I was surprised I didn’t have to wait too long for this one. My only gripe is that it’s the hardcover edition but I shouldn’t complain.
