Erin McCarthy, author of the New Adult novel True, discusses why she chose to write a New Adult novel and what she hopes readers will take away after reading True. Welcome to The Book Vixen Erin!
What was it about writing a new adult novel that appealed to you? Did you do any special research for TRUE?
I love that the characters in new adult are raw and so honest. It’s a messy age, with poor choices and amazingly insightful choices. It’s the paradox of adult and child converging with total freedom. We don’t expect these heroines to totally have their act together yet and I like writing that because it’s so real. I didn’t do any research for TRUE other than consult with my best friend who is a judge over the legalities of Tyler’s problems.
What is one message you want readers to take away from TRUE?
That love, and people, come into our lives in unexpected ways and we need to embrace it, not judge it.

I'm really starting to like this genre. I might be middle aged but I remember that time in my life and it was wild and messy. Strangely enough, I can identify more with them than I can some "adults". :)

I go back and forth with it. It is a messy age and I didn't live like most do in the books.
ReplyDeleteI've been surprised by how much I am enjoying the New Adult books. Looking forward to reading this one too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the great guest post. I will be starting this one soon. :D

They've been pretty good -- no bad ones so far :)
ReplyDeleteThis plot sounds great. I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteI've been pleasantly surprised by the New Adult genre. I look forward to reading this one!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to reading the New Adult genre.I am always looking for new books and genres to read.
ReplyDeleteI have a very hard time distinguishing what make s a book New Adult.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any New Adult genre books. I need to find out which books are New Adult. I don't recall see them with a "NA" like the Young Adult (YA) books.
ReplyDeletesounds fantastic! Congrats to Erin on the new release! I love NA b/c they are edgier and more original it seems :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait! I've read a lot of Erin's other books and they are some of my favorite reads! This venture into adult romance sounds fantastic! Congratulations to Erin on another release and here's hoping it does amazingly well!
ReplyDeleteI like that NA isn't afraid to "go there" because in real life, that's what happens! There is absolutely a need for "cleaner" YA for those who prefer it, but it's nice that now there's some branching out for the college-age range in between YA and adult Harlequin stuff.
ReplyDeleteIn truth, I've only read a few NA books; but I much preferred the absence of the continuous fade-to-black found in YA.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, to Erin on another release, which I am certain will be amazing!!
Cheers! Trayce
What Iike about New Adult genre has been the content of the material that authors are writing about. Most stories are sweet and the covers are hot.
ReplyDeleteI like that it's a time of change for a person and that makes it exciting.
