Author Dee J. Adams is here with us today talking about first impressions. Welcome back to The Book Vixen Dee!
First, I want to thank Brianna for having me today! I’m a big fan of her blog so it’s always a pleasure to be here.
I’m curious if your mother always—or ever—harped on you about the importance of first impressions? You know, dress a certain way and remember your manners? All those things that people see first when they meet you.
Have you ever met someone who left a first impression so strong that you never forgot them? Whether the meeting happened at work or running an errand or at a wedding, did someone do something or say something that stuck with you for days or weeks or even years?
In Living Dangerously, my characters first meet under really difficult circumstances… probably the worst time to meet anyone, but the impression they make on each other will last a lifetime. (Granted, meeting under extreme conditions alone will probably keep a person on your mind no matter what!) But what is it specifically that stays with you when you meet someone? Is it the words or the person’s actions? Maybe it’s their smile or their attitude. Maybe it’s a handshake or the sound of their laugh. It could be anything.
In Living Dangerously, it’s a simple introduction that bonds Troy to Julie. Not so much in her words, but because of her timing. I love these two together because they bring out the best in each other. They never would’ve met under normal circumstances, but upon their meeting they have an instant connection. Julie brings out the best of Troy and in turn, he works hard to give her what she needs. A match made in heaven.
What about you? Have you ever had a first meeting with someone that stuck with you for a long time? (You might’ve even ended up marrying that person!) Or maybe you met someone and wish you could forget it! I’d love to know your story.
I’ve got a free digital copy of Danger Zone for one commenter. (Speaking of introductions…Danger Zone is where you first meet Julie Fraser.)

Julie Fraser, Hollywood's newest "it" girl, arrives on the red carpet to more than just the flashes of the paparazzi's cameras. A sniper's shots leave her bleeding and in the line of fire. Her life would be over if it weren't for the bodyguard who comes to the rescue—taking a bullet in the process.Troy Mills, a P.I. working undercover, couldn't stand by and watch an innocent woman die, but now he's torn. How can he tell her that he's not a bodyguard, but a P.I.? A P.I. hired to prove that Julie is sleeping with the movie producer he's pretending to protect.
When a second attempt is made on Julie's life, Troy realizes that keeping her safe is more important than any supposed affair. And in order to keep her safe, he'll have to keep her close. But desire and danger are hot on Julie's heels. Who could have guessed that protecting an A-list actress would not only put Troy's life in jeopardy, but his heart as well?

ReplyDeleteAh...so maybe that means it will happen in the future. Something to look forward to. Thanks for dropping in and commenting!
I have. I met someone at school that I still have not forgotten. First books are like that. You read one you love and you are hooked on the author.
ReplyDeleteHi Debby,
DeleteThat's cool...the exact thing I'm talking about. Yes! First books are like that! I get so excited when I find a new author. It's better than candy! LOL. Thanks for stopping by!
There have been many people I remember meeting for the first time -- funny thing, my husband isn't one of them!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy,
DeleteOkay... that's kinda funny. Just don't tell him you told us that. LOL. I definitely remember meeting my husband. (Uhm...I thought he had a cute butt. TMI? Probably!) Thanks for commenting!

ReplyDeleteHi Victoria,
DeleteI bet you will some day. A great smile, or solid handshake, maybe a joke... someone will do something one day and you'll remember them. Good luck on the giveaway and thanks for commenting.
Ummmm... I'm kinda bummed that I can't think of any! With the exception of the love of my life of course(who the instant I met, I just wanted to Kiss :) I had to ask his name again b/c I didn't hear it cuz I was focused on his lips).
ReplyDeleteHi Erin,
DeleteThat's so funny!! Does he know that? Hey, at least you remember meeting him. LOL. And his lips! Thanks for commenting!
It would be my first love. It has been awhile back since I have seen him. But from time to time, I would think about him. I guess it's true about first love: You'll never forget...
ReplyDeleteHi Kai,
DeleteI think you're right. There's usually something about that first meet with a first love that stays with you always. Thanks for coming by and commenting!
I don't really remember meeting people for the first time either. My partner and I were in the same class in high school and we didn't even know.
ReplyDeleteHi Nae,
DeleteWow! But, it sounds like you'd never really met, you were just in class together, so I can see how you might not remember. I think that might be the case for many people who are in a group that hang out, but they can't really pinpoint a time they met. Thanks for dropping in!
Quite often , but I think the reason it stayed with me is because I did something embarrassing & not what they did or said or ...
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
DeleteThat's an interesting take on it! I never thought of that kind of turn around. Which is really cool when you think about it, because you're the memorable one. Thanks for coming by!
Yes, it was with a business associate. Intense immediate attraction. But alas he was married.
ReplyDeleteOOPS! I thought this would be entered under Christina G
DeleteHi Christina,
DeleteOh wow!! That is a big "alas!" That would definitely be memorable. Sorry he was taken. Thanks for commenting!
