Brianna is Participating in Bout of Books 7.0!

I’m doing it – I’m finally going to (try to) participate in a read-a-thon! I’ve got books to be read and a read-a-thon is just what I need.

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

- From the Bout of Books team

Time Devoted to Reading:

With 3 kids, there are all kinds of distractions, interruptions, and chaos to be had on a daily basis so we’ll see how the read-a-thon goes. I plan to limit my computer time during the week of the read-a-thon and read as much as possible during my free time. I also plan to stay up late (after the kids go to sleep) and get some reading done then as well.

My Goals:

My goal is to read 5 books (or more). These will mainly be books I have for review. I also plan to participate in one, if not all 3, of the Bout of Books Twitter chats. And I want to visit other Bout of Bookers and cheer them on.

Books to read:

  1. Halfway There by Susan Mallery – READ
  2. Trouble in the Making by Lissa Matthews (started already, need to finish) DNF
  3. Game On by Tracy Solheim DNF
  4. His Risk to Take by Tracy Solheim – READ
  5. Nature’s Bounty by J. Rose Allister – READ
  6. True by Erin McCarthy DNF
  7. Sworn to Protect by Jo Davis DNF
  8. Living Dangerously by Dee J. Adams (got 33% in)

Updates:

Monday 5/13
# of pages I read today: about 154 pages
Books: Halfway There by Susan Mallery, Game On by Tracy Solheim
Thoughts: Twitter chat was fun. It’s hard being off the internet so instead of trying to avoid it altogether, I’ll limit myself to checking it to 1-2 times a days.

Tuesday 5/14
# of pages I read today: about 68 pages
Books: Game On by Tracy Solheim (DNF), His Risk to Take by Tessa Bailey
Thoughts: I’ve had 2 DNFs during Bout of Books. Bummer.

Wednesday 5/15
# of pages I read today: about 110 pages
Books: His Risk to Take by Tessa Bailey, Nature’s Bounty by J. Rose Allister, True by Erin McCarthy
Thoughts: Good reading day today.

Thursday 5/16
# of pages I read today: NONE
Books: N/A
Thoughts: I needed a reading break. No reading for me today.

Friday 5/17
# of pages I read today: about 67 pages
Books: Sworn to Protect by Jo Davis
Thoughts: I haven’t been reaching my goal of 100 pages a day. I’m not so good at this read-a-thon thing.

Saturday 5/18
# of pages I read today: about 79 pages
Books: Sworn to Protect by Jo Davis (DNF), Living Dangerously by Dee J. Adams
Thoughts: I’m not doing so well with this read-a-thon. I think I’ve DNF more books than I’ve read. :/

Sunday 5/19
# of pages I read today: about 67 pages
Books: Living Dangerously by Dee J. Adams
Thoughts: Finished my very first read-a-thon. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped; I DNF more books than I actually read. I do plan on participating in Bout of Books 8.0 in August (so as long as the stars line up in my favor and there is nothing going on during that week). And for the next read-a-thon I plan to only read books from my personal TBR pile. Hopefully that will cut down on the DNFs.

  1. *high fives*

You can help me get into Twitter jail during a Twitter chat. Apparently it's a thing now. If I don't get into jail, it's not a Twitter chat. o.O

Glad you'll be joining us. I hope it's everything you need! :)

  3. This is great readathon to join since it lasts all week. Even if you miss a day or two (or three) you can still do a lot of reading! I'll make sure to stop by and see how you do!

    1. That's what I like about it - that it's a week long read-a-thon. It'll give me enough time to read as much as I can. And you're right; if I miss a day, I can still catch up.

    1. It's very hard for me to stay away from Twitter and tinkering with my blog but I will have to in order to really make this read-a-thon worthwhile :)

Good luck to you as well!

  7. I've got 3 kids too and my week in read-a-thons a couple weeks ago was a complete bust due to unforeseen circumstances. I'm hoping to get much more done during next week's Bout of Books! Good luck with your goals and hope you have minimal interruptions and distractions next week. Here are my Bout of Books Read-a-thon Goals if you'd like to stop by.

  9. Good luck! The only way I could do something like this would be to do it on vacation where I stayed home all week. LOL

    1. Vacation? What's that? LOL I will have all kinds of interruptions but I'm trying to spend all my free time reading and not be on the computer. I spend way too much time on the computer.

  10. Sorry you've had a slow week. Don't let it discourage you though. Bout-of-Books is a pretty laid back readathon and that's why I love it so much. Hope you enjoy the last day and thanks for being such a great cheer leader! ;)

  11. Just because you have DNF'd more than finished doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong! Sorry the books haven't been working out for you. I hope you find something you can get into and finish Bout of Books on a high note!! Just keep at it, you can do it, any progress is progress. Plus think of it this way, those are less books on your TBR to worry about! :D

    1. It's just a bummer having so many DNFs. I hate not finishing a book, let alone 4. But you're right, I've worked my way thru my TBR pile so that's something :D
