HE’S USED TO GETTING WHAT HE WANTS…A former football star and one of Chicago’s top prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cade Morgan will do anything to nail a corrupt state senator, which means he needs Brooke Parker’s help. As general counsel for a restaurant company, she can get a bug to the senator’s table at one of her five-star restaurants so the FBI can eavesdrop on him. All Cade has to do is convince Brooke to cooperate—and he’s not afraid to use a little charm, or the power of his office, to do just that.
AND WHAT HE WANTS IS HER.
A savvy businesswoman, Brooke knows she needs to play ball with the U.S. Attorney’s office—even if it means working with Cade. No doubt there’s a sizzling attraction beneath all their sarcastic quips, but Brooke is determined to keep things casual. Cade agrees—until a surprising turn of events throws his life into turmoil, and he realizes that he wants more than just a good time from the one woman with whom he could fall terrifyingly, irresistibly in love . . .
Why I Read this Book: I've read and enjoyed books by Julie James before and I really like her voice. She writes great romances with characters who love to toss back and forth witty (and sometimes flirtatious) banter.
What I Liked: I loved the way Cade and Brooke acted with each other. They were so saucy, in a fun way. Both were likable characters on their own yet they had great chemistry together. Readers get a good look at what goes on in Brooke’s life, not just with her love life but with her professional life as well. And there was just enough information given on Cade's cases to keep things interesting for me, yet not too much to zap the fun out of this novel.
Surprisingly enough, I actually liked Zach even though he's a 16-year old kid. His character, and circumstance, added to the overall story in a positive way. Zach’s presence doesn’t hinder the story for me at all, which is usually the case for me with child plot moppets. He wasn’t whiny; he acts like an adult, he’s funny, and he reads people well.
I’m definitely interested in the Twitter terrorist story arc mentioned in this book, which I believe took place in the book before this one (which I haven't yet read). And I absolutely loved Ford. I want more Ford!
What I Didn’t Like: No complaints here. Love Irresistibly was an enjoyable read.
Memorable Moment:
“Don’t get me wrong, I love a Denver omelet as much as the next girl. But I’m curious whether that’s your thing, or if you try to change up the routine depending on the specific woman. You know … like, green pepper because I have green eyes, ham because I’m so funny, and onions for all the tears you’ll shed after I leave.”
Overall Impression: Love Irresistibly was a fun romance novel with a touch of suspense added to it. Even the child plot moppet couldn’t turn me away from this one.
