She's always been off-limits...

Former Army Special Forces Sgt. Marco Vieri has never thought of Alyssa Scott as more than his best friend's little sister, but her return home changes that...and challenges him to keep his war-borne demons at bay. Marco's not the same person he was back when he protected Alyssa from her abusive father, and he's not about to let her see the mess he's become.

...but now she's all grown up.

When Alyssa takes a job at the bar where Marco works, her carefree smiles wreak havoc on his resolve to bury his feelings. How can he protect her when he can't stop thinking about her in his bed? But Alyssa's not looking for protection—not anymore. Now that she's back in his life, she’s determined to heal her forbidden hero, one touch at a time...

I really enjoyed Laura Kaye’s Hearts in Darkness so I wanted to read more by her. I like how Alyssa tries to comfort Marco; she loves him even though he’s a damaged man. Marco is an ex-Army Special Forces Sergeant who has some serious baggage. There were times when I wanted to smack him upside the head for the things he said to Alyssa and the way he acted towards her. He suffers from I’m not good enough for you, you deserve better syndrome.

The secondary characters were enjoyable to read. I instantly liked Pete and he was a caring, father-figure type guy. Kim was nice and generous. Eric and Van were just as great. I enjoyed the parts with Brady, Alyssa’s older brother and Marco’s best friend. I love how he got all big bad brother on Marco and warned him not to hurt Alyssa. I can’t wait to read Marco’s book.

One gripe I had with Her Forbidden Hero is that I felt like I didn’t get enough background to Marco and Alyssa’s relationship. I wanted more of a connection between them. It felt mainly one-sided, on Alyssa’s part, for most of the book.

Her Forbidden Hero was a sweet and quick read but not too serious. The ending was cute and sweet but it felt too soon.

  1. That's about how I felt. It was pretty good but standard I'm not worthy stuff from the hero which gets old after a while.

  2. It sounds like the I'm not good enough thing was just a little heavy handed. Sounds like a nice light read though.
