And here we go!
"I know this is going to make me sound like somebody's mom, but right now, I don't fucking care. You either tell me what you know, Violet, or I'm going to call your grandfather and tell him that you've been keeping company with one of Ashland's most notorious crime lords. Somehow, I don't think Warren will like that."
Eva sensed my hesitation, so she decided to play her trump card. "Salina Dubois is my Mab Monroe."
"I won’t stop,” Salina rasped in a low voice only I could hear, as the blood continued to pump out of her gunshot wounds. “I can’t stop – ever."“I know, sweetheart”, I said softly. “I know.” And then I leaned over and cut her throat.
“No!” Owen shouted. “No! No! No!”
"I never thought you would tune me out the way you sometimes do Bria, Jo-Jo, and even Finn. I never thought I would ask you for something – something important – and you would just ignore me.”"
I’m going to untangle her deadly scheme, even if it leaves my love affair hanging by a thread.
"I understand," I said, "and you take as much time as you need. But know this, Owen. I love you. Now, today, tomorrow. That won't ever change, no matter what happens between us."
- A lot of the time Gin will keep her comments and opinions to herself instead of telling people (Owen) that they're making a mistake or that they're wrong about something. Why do you think she bites her tongue so much, especially in this book?
- Why do you think Owen kept giving Salina second (and third, and fourth, and so on) chances, even after he finds out that she tortured Eva when she was only 4 years old? What do you think of how Owen handled the whole Salina situation?
- What would you do in Gin’s situation, assuming you are an assassin and all? Would you have taken out Salina, or sought intense treatment for her?
- If you were Eva, would you have wanted Salina to die at your hand? Or would you have wanted Gin to take care of her?
- JoJo has a premonition and tells Gin that everything would work out the way it was supposed to. Do you think this premonition is regarding her relationship with Owen specifically? Do you think they get back together or are they done?
- Gin starts seeing people wear "I ate at the Pork Pit...and lived!" T-shirts. What slogan would you put on a t-shirt for this series?
- Eva and Phillip have quite a connection it seems. Do you think there's a romance blossoming between these two?

In this book I think Gin keeps quiet because she's just plain scared. She's afraid that what ever she says won't do any good and if she says too much it will push Owen away ever farther.
ReplyDeleteHeck if I know! I think that's what drove me so crazy about all of this. I can understand him doubting Phillip and maybe not even Gin because of the jealousy factor, but I though for sure that he would be seeing red and be ready to kill her himself when he found out about her attempts to kill Eva. The hold she had on him was so frustrating. They had a strong connection in their past and he probably felt protective over her because of what she suffered too, but she never coddled Gin like that. Not that Gin would have put up with being coddled but why he thought that Salina deserved it or even needed it after all she had done was beyond me.
I don't know what I would have done, but I don't think that Gin had any choice. Not when she still presented a threat to everyone she cared about because I have no doubt that Salina wouldn't have stopped at just taking out Gin and Eva. She would have gone after everyone.
Eva's statement that Salina was her Mab made me think that she would have killed her if she thought she could. It would have cost her, but she would have done it if she had to. Kinda makes me wonder how Owen would have handled it if Eva would have finished her instead of Gin. I would have just wanted to make sure she was gone and not able to hurt anyone else. The way it happened wouldn't have mattered.
I really hope so (I even said as much in my review) but we all know that 'for the best' doesn't always mean what we want to happen right now. I know that in Owen's mind he was leaving because he couldn't accept what Gin had done but he has a lot to atone for too. I can't imagine that Eva is going to make his life easy if she has anything to say about the way he acted.
I'll have to think about that one... hmmm... it would definitely be a 'spidery' slogan.
I LOVED Phillip. He held his own with Gin and his protectiveness over Eva won me over. I want to see more of him and hopefully it will involve Eva. I think in this series it's hard to judge someone by what they do for a 'living.' It's more about survival of the fittest than anything else. How else could we fall in love with an assassin?
As far as what happened in this book, I don't think that it would have affected me nearly as much if Owen wouldn't have been so perfect and possessive of Gin in By a Thread. I know that authors are evil, but this took things to an extreme. (I may or may not have tweeted that to Jennifer Estep this week even before I finished Widow's Web - I think she may have laughed.... Grrr) Just because it was hard to read and it definitely broke my heart to watch everything unfold and then crumble, there was just as much to love about this one too. I can't wait to start Deadly Sting!
I think Gin's afraid she will push Owen away, as well. She is being sensitive to his history with Salina, but she is also acting in a very non-Gin-like fashion! It's like Salina had manipulated Gin, too...I am still UBER shocked that Owen didn't flip the eff out when he found out what Salina did to Eva. Manipulation was serious!
ReplyDeleteSalina was a master manipulator! She was definitely molded by her environment, as well what happened to her father. She was in a dark place for a very long time, and the grief and anger turned her into a monster. Half the time I was sad for her situation, the other half...I wanted to drown her myself! Just as Gin did, I too saw so much of Gin in Salina, and it made my heart hurt. I know very well how much your experiences shape who you are, and I felt Salina got the shaft. Still, Gin did the right thing. She was too far gone...
I'm personally glad that Gin did not allow Eva to kill Salina. Gin knows firsthand the turmoil of snuffing out another life, and I'm glad she saved Eva from that pain. Gin has had to shut off her emotions, mostly, because of her line of work, so it doesn't appear to affect her as much. (And I always wonder just how much it really does affect her). But Eva is so innocent...
Mostly because she loves him and it’s trying really hard not to boss people with her ideas, but I think she needed to tell him and let him face the consequences.
ReplyDeleteI think he’s always trying to protect people he thinks deserve another chance because they suffered in life as much as he did, but sometimes I like he just don’t see how people is really evil or mean and deserve how things happen in their life.
I think I would take her out, because she acted like a psychopath and there’s not enough treatment to keep her sane and protect the people she thinks are after her or against her.
I think at my hand, because it kinda gives a closure and make her fell vindicated. But at the same time it’s easier to let someone else do the bad deed and keep sane without blood on the hands.
I think they are getting back together, but I don’t think their relationship will ever be the same, but they are very much in love and things could end up good for these two.
Spider will get you!!!
Yes and Phillip deserves a nice girl, but I think they need a little time before start something serious.
I think Gin bites her tongue because Fletcher taught her well. She has to let people come to conclusions on their own or they will always hold everything against her.
ReplyDeleteI felt like Own kept giving her chances because he didn't want to lose even one more thing. Also, Owen feels responsible for everyone. He is a natural protector. Owen's treatment of Salina made me sad and angry.
Salina had to be put down for every body's sake. Even Salina knew it.
Eva was in a tough situation where Salina was concerned. I think she thoughtshe wanted to pull the trigger. I think by the end she realized that it was best that she didn't do it. Eva is so innocent because Owen is so protective. Eva is lucky to have Gin.
I think JoJo meant what she said. It was open ended on purpose. I don't know if Owen and Gin will get back together. Maybe their relationship has run its course and taught Gin what she needed.
I love the t-shirts just as they are. I think I might want one !
I think Eva and Philip are a great couple! I don't even care that he is a dangerous man. He and Eva are good together.
