J9 here! Thanks to Relativity Media, I was sent on assignment for The Book Vixen to the Nicholas Sparks’ Safe Haven movie set last August. In my original recap post there were details I couldn’t share due to their sensitive nature but now that the movie is being released in just a few weeks (this Valentine’s Day!), I can spill the beans!
First up was a visit to a wet and soggy filming of a Fourth of July parade.
One of the closely guarded secrets are pictures of the set. Foremost is Alex and the children’s home, exterior and interior. This is a lived in home that the movie production company rented and moved the owners out of in order to set it up as the hero’s home. All of the home owner’s possession where stored off sight so everything you see here will be in the Safe Haven movie!
One of my treats was hearing Mr. Sparks share how critical this house was to his hero’s development. Sparks said the hero raised his children and loved and lost in this home so he wanted a home that reflected this bittersweet aspect of life.
Nicholas Sparks has a love affair with these remarkable trees in North Carolina.
One of my other favorite secrets is Ivan’s, the restaurant that heroine Katie works at. Look at this amazing view behind Mr. Sparks as he shared the importance of getting Ivan’s homespun, low-country charm right. The movie production company was still doing construction on this building which you can see in the second picture.
In a couple of weeks, we will have some more fun stuff from the Safe Haven movie set trip to share with you. In the meantime, check out the movie trailer for Safe Haven (in theaters February 14):

I love all of the pictures from the set! I haven't read Safe Haven yet (or any of Sparks' books), but this one had tempted me already. I'm hoping it doesn't have an ending that'll make me start crying my eyes out, but I hear he's a little famous for those. :)

ReplyDeleteYes, I read Safe Haven when it was first published, loved it! I have read almost all of Nicholas Spark's books, he's one of my favorite authors. He just GETS it... he knows how to take a love story and make you cry, laugh and give yourself over to the book! I have to say The Wedding is still a book that I pull out to read often, it's special to me. But I love them all.
