In My Pocket (5)

The Book Vixen's In My Pocket

In My Pocket is a new weekly feature where J9 and I share some of the links we’ve collected in Pocket. (To find out what Pocket is and how to use it, check out my tutorial on Pocket.) Some links will be book-related while some may be off-topic. Who knows what you’ll find in our Pocket ;) And if you use Pocket, we invite you to share what’s in your Pocket as well.

In J9's Pocket:

  • I love the idea of an author chain interview when I read about it on Josh Lanyon blog.  It allows readers to meet new authors and see what favorites are up to. (via Josh Lanyon)
  • I've always wondered how Google comes up with the search terms when I've only completed a word or two and this article explains that. ( via The New York Times)
  • Blog readers know I loved Carrie Ann Ryan's book Dust of My Wings and she just posted a free short story which takes place after the book. (via Carrie Ann Ryan)
  • Ava March is one of my favorite MM authors and she blogged about some of her shorter books being on sale this week for $0.99! But hurry, sales ends TODAY. (via Ava March)
  • I am a HUGE Quentin Tarantino fan and have been anxiously awaiting his next movie Django Unchained.  I'm getting ready for the December 25 release by watching the trailer almost daily for the wacky, visual storytelling that is Quentin Tarantino! (via Unchained Movie)

In Brianna's Pocket:

  • What do you think of guys being able to smell a women’s arousal from across the room in romance novels? Here’s a funny article about the subject matter. (via The Bookaholic Cat)
  • A few bloggers are hosting a week-long event to look back on 2012 and looking forward to 2013. You can participate along with them; check out the schedule and get your lists ready! (via Fiktshun)
  • I (like many of you) have a huge TBR pile but I have yet to find a TBR reading challenge that is SIMPLE and straightforward. Then I saw Jennifer’s post on her own TBR challenge (she’s not hosting; it’s a personal challenge) and I totally love the idea. (via The Book Nympho)
  • Under the Dome by Stephen King will be turned into a series. I have had this monstrous book on my shelf since it released in 2009 but haven’t read it yet. That book will probably break my wrist so I need to get it in ebook. (via Oh No They Didn’t)
  • I love Carly Rae Jepsen’s song Call Me Maybe and I love the parodies that come up. This is by far the best parody (of a parody) yet. (via Fiction Vixen Book Reviews)

Because I’m nosey as hell and ‘sharing is caring’ and all that, leave us a comment and tell us what’s in your Pocket.

  1. Right now there's just lint and my cell phone in my pocket, but this is such a fun feature, I might change that! I remember seeing your Pocket tutorial during Bloggiesta, but I never got around to trying it out. I started using Evernote just a few weeks before Bloggiesta, so I've been playing around with that. I think I read somewhere that Pocket and Evernote can be used together..? hmm. I'd better go review your tutorial. :)

    1. I didn't think I'd love Pocket as much as I do--totally addicted! Let us know if you can get the apps to work together or if you choose one over the other.

  2. Check out IFTTT for ways to use Pocket and Evernote together....and thousands of other options. I've got about 8 different IFTTT recipes going right now and they've all worked flawlessly.

    1. I've been hesitant to look into IFITT because I think I'm going to go overboard. But I should at least check it out.

  3. I downloaded Pocket after leaving my comment the other day, but honestly haven't gotten around to playing with it yet..

    What is IFTTT ?

    1. IFTTT.com - you create "recipes" or use ones already created to automate a million different things. Like I have a recipe that syncs my instagram photos to a folder on my dropbox whenever I upload a new photo to instragram. I have one that will tweet for me when I have a new blogpost or posts a message on my FB page. I have one that when I star something in my google reader it sends it to Pocket. I even have a recipe that emails me the newest stuff streaming on Netflix.

    2. I googled it right after I left my comment .. and OMG that is awesome. Your explanation is better than what I read on the IFTTT.com webpage!

I can't download Pocket to my MacBook because I don't have 10.7! Ack! I need to do some housekeeping on my mac.. delete or save photos on an external HD or get my husband to upgrade me to a bigger HD. I'm currently using 10.6.8 and don't have room for the update. Ugh. At least my phone is up to date.
