Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a Kitchen Aid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.
Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…
In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.
Why I Read this Book: I am a huge fan of the author’s Redhead series so when I found out that she’d written another romantic comedy, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I just knew I was going to thoroughly enjoy this book just from reading the synopsis. (And I was right.)
What I Liked: I didn’t think I was going to like Simon, being the man whore that he is and all, but I did. He wasn’t as whorish and I had originally thought and his ‘extracurricular activities aside, he’s a good guy. Simon’s ‘wallbanging’ was explained not only to the reader, but to Caroline as well. I felt more comfortable about his character for being upfront about it.
The author didn’t go with the obvious when Caroline and Simon were in Spain. I don’t want to say too much but the time in Spain and what happens was realistic and I’m pleased that the author didn’t take the easy route.
The author has a way with words. Her writing is fluid, unfiltered, and humorous. And the spotlight doesn’t just shine on the hero and heroine; there’s a whole cast of characters that intrigue me with delight. It’s a real joy reading her books. The only problem is I’ve read them all.
What I Didn’t Like: Be prepared to act a fool, which may or may not include snorting, while reading this book.
Memorable Moments:
The beginnings of carpel tunnel were threatening to set in as I tried desperately to get myself off.
“Asshole,” I mouthed to him.“Cockblocker” he mouthed back, the smirk returning in full force.
Overall Impression: Wallbanger is loaded with witty, flirtatious banter and hilarious sexual innuendos. Alice Clayton has a knack for writing thoroughly satisfying romantic comedies. You'll laugh so hard, you may just pee your pants.
Brianna’s Rating:
What a horrible cover! From a distance I thought her legs were his arms! It should have been a little bit clearer in that detail! :) Put some separation in there or something!
ReplyDeleteI've got this one on my review request que. It sounded like a fun and steamy read. I hope I enjoy it as much as you did.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you like it!
DeleteI haven't read any of hers yet, but I keep hearing great things about her books. I think I need this one! smiles....
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this is word for word the same as the Twific, otherwise I would never pay $20 for the PB version. Not sure if the laughs warrant the steep price.
ReplyDeleteWow. I would never have read this based on the summary. It sounds kind of wacky and all over the place but I enjoyed your review and I think I'm going to head over to Goodreads and add it to my list.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I really like Clayton's books and her mix of funny, sexy, and ansty tension I love. The description doesn't do the book justice I think. I wasn't sure what I walking into but I liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic review! I hadn't heard of this one before but I'll be sure to add it to the tbr! Any author that combines funny and sexy is a must read for me! =D
ReplyDeleteI love rom-coms :)
DeleteLove this book! Nobody pulls off sexual tension plus hilarious banter like this gal! I definitely had some laugh/snort/giggle aloud moments and was glad I wasn't in public while reading!
ReplyDeleteYes! There were definitely some LOL moments :)
DeleteLove the quote about asshole and cockblocker LOL. Great review, Brianna!
ReplyDeleteThere were so many great and funny quotes; it was hard to choose!
DeleteI kept running across this book on my Kindle recommended list and on book blogs ignoring it solely by its title...it seemed a bit cheesy...odd reason, I know. I finally downloaded it due to its 99¢ price and rave reviews. IT WAS THE BEST 99¢ I'VE EVER SPENT!!! I absolutely LOVED this book and didn't want it to end. Extremely funny, steamy and sweet. It's a must must must read. Since reading Wallbanger, I now realize, any other title for this book would have been out of the question...it's perfect. I'm going to miss Pink Nighty Girl and her Wallbanger.
ReplyDeleteSince you enjoyed reading this book, you should try her Redhead series if you haven't already ;)
DeleteI haven't read any of the Redhead series. But after reading an excerpt from the book, I'm in to read the entire book. I also love the sexual bantering between Alice and Simon.
