Special Agents for the Department of Diplomatic Security, Taylor MacAllister and Will Brandt have been partners and best friends for three years, but everything changed during a weeklong camping trip. Now Taylor and Will are trying to see if true love is in the cards or if it's just sex. Really, really good sex, granted!

But when Taylor receives a cobra bottled in rice wine for the birthday he nearly didn't live to see, Will fears that something in Taylor's past—something Taylor won't talk about—is going to put an end to their chance of a future romance. Or any future at all.

In a Nutshell: Taylor and Will are back and even yummier as they figure out what it means to be a couple. The romantic suspense is fast paced and kept even my tiny attention span.

The Set Up: Taylor and Will are back from their near disastrous camping trip and Taylor is recovering from being shot. While Taylor and Will just want to celebrate Taylor’s birthday someone else is plotting his death.

Why I Read this Book: I love Taylor and Will from novella one of the series so continuing to read was a must.

What I Liked: This sexy duo is charming in and out of the bedroom. I like my erotic romance to have as much heart as heat and this novella offers that. Taylor and Will spend time doing couple-things such as going out to eat after a long work week, fixing Taylor’s house and just spending a lazy Sunday together. I like this exploration of a gay couple who aren’t solely about sex, just as it is with hetro couples.

What I Also Liked: I’m not normally a romantic suspense fan. I’m the spoilsport who wants to know whodunit from page one but this novella kept my attention from beginning to end. I really like how the mystery plot of who’s after Taylor is rooted in his past that he doesn’t want to share with Will thus forcing him to share.

The other thing I like about this novella is the realism. In a lot of romance real life is suspended. For instance, have you ever read of a hostage peeing themselves because they weren’t allowed a bathroom break? Likely not. But this novella offers that realism of imperfect but compelling characters doing things real people would in tough situations. For me this showcases true storytelling which includes an erotic romance and not just an erotic romance.

What I Didn’t Like: I know this is a series so I’m not too upset that there are some unresolved issues with Will’s ex-boyfriend who still has the hots for him but some readers may dislike that. I suspect I’ll get more resolution about this in future novellas and that just whets my appetite to read the next.

IMO: This is another great addition to the Dangerous Ground series.

  1. I absolutely love this series! It's my favorite of all of Josh's books. That is saying A LOT! There is just something about Will and Taylor that speaks to me. I want to have them over for dinner. ;-)

  2. I love Will and Tay, even (ducks) David. The realism is a part for me of why I love Josh's writing. Life does come with accidents and smells, its not all kittens and roses!

    1. David, David!? Okay, I don't hate him but I don't like how he got involved in Will and Taylor's romance in the last book. That was torture to read! But I agree, great series.
