Today, I have author Dianne Duvall here with us talking about the vampires in her Immortal Guardians series.
Welcome to The Book Vixen Dianne!
Vampires have undergone so many transformations since they first burst onto the fiction scene over a century ago. They began as – and for many years remained – villains. While sometimes they were dashing figures, more often than not they were creatures who preyed upon the innocent and bore appearances as horrific as their deeds. Even their human assistants, or Renfields as they came to be known by many readers and movie viewers, could be nasty individuals, consuming insects and taking obscene pleasure in the evil deeds of their “masters.”
That gradually changed, though, over the decades. Vampires went from being monsters to becoming alluring, brooding alpha males. Heroes seeking that one woman who can brighten their existence. This is the vampire most readers today expect to encounter in paranormal romance novels. In my Immortal Guardians series, however, vampires have returned to their evil roots . . . to some extent. My vampires are humans who have been infected with a very rare symbiotic virus that replaces their immune system and lends them greater speed, strength, and longevity, along with a need for blood. It also causes brain damage that drives them insane. That’s right. Vampires are the bad guys in my series. And Bastien, the hero of PHANTOM SHADOWS, the third book in the series, used to lead them.
Bastien has quite the dark past. When my series began, Bastien and his army of psychotic vampires waged war with the Immortal Guardians, exceedingly powerful warriors who seek to protect humanity by hunting and destroying vampires. Now Bastien must fight ALONGSIDE the immortals, and his transition into their ranks is not going smoothly. To say he is ruffling feathers is an understatement. His deeds in DARKNESS DAWNS and NIGHT REIGNS, the first two book in the series, earned him the hatred of immortals, vampires, and humans alike, and none are willing to let him forget it. But Bastien has never backed down from a challenge. And when he refuses to do so now, his presence may forever alter the Immortal Guardian world . . . particularly when one woman lends him her support.
Dr. Melanie Lipton sees in Bastien what the others can’t and doesn’t hesitate to defend him. She is also quite deadly with a blade and is ever willing to stand by his side and face down his enemies. Will her kindness and the love she harbors for him heal old wounds? Can her laughter and boldness help Bastien at last leave the past behind him and embrace the future?
Find out in PHANTOM SHADOWS, which I just learned to my delight, is both a New York Times and USA Today Bestseller. :-)

Dianne Duvall is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series. Her debut novel DARKNESS DAWNS was nominated for the RT Reviewers' Choice Award for Best Vampire Romance by RT Book Reviews and for Best Paranormal Romance - Vampire by The Romance Reviews. NIGHT REIGNS, the second book, was declared an "utterly addictive" Top Pick by RT Book Reviews. And PHANTOM SHADOWS, the third book in the series, was deemed a Top Pick by The Romance Reviews. In addition to being a writer and an avid reader, Dianne loves all things creative. When she isn't burying her nose in a book or weaving stories of her own, Dianne is active in the independent film industry and once even appeared onscreen as a machete-wielding maniac not unlike the vampires she so loves to create in her novels.

Title: Phantom Shadows
Series: Immortal Guardians, #3
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: October 2, 2012 by Zebra
Dr. Melanie Lipton is no stranger to the supernatural. She knows immortals better than they know themselves, right down to their stubborn little genes. So although a handsome rogue immortal seems suspicious to her colleagues, Sebastien Newcombe intrigues Melanie. His history is checkered, his scars are impressive, and his ideas are daring. But it's not his ideas that have Melanie fighting off surges of desire…Bastien is used to being the bad guy. In fact, he can't remember the last time he had an ally he could trust. But Melanie is different--and under her calm, professional exterior he senses a passion beyond anything in his centuries of experience. Giving in to temptation is out of the question--he can't put her in danger. But she isn't asking him…
