My Bookish Wants & Gots is weekly Saturday feature here on The Book Vixen. I list the books I want - which can be old, new, or upcoming releases - and the books I recently got. My Bookish Wants & Gots was inspired by Book Chick City’s On My Wishlist and the Mailbox Monday meme.
Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts
In the small town of Innocence, Mississippi, days are long, nights are fragrant, and secrets are hard to keep. But when a brutal killer starts claiming the lives of the town's most attractive women, lifelong neighbors are forced to wonder if the culprit is a stranger lurking in the bayou...or someone right next door.World-famous concert violinist Caroline Waverly knows nothing of the murders when she arrives in Innocence. Burned out from a childhood lost to endless rehearsals and an all-too-public breakup with the conductor who was her lover, Caroline is looking for a little peace and some time to think. She hopes that a stay at her late grandmother's house the one with a covered porch just made for soft summer nights will provide the tranquillity she needs. But Innocence has something else to offer Caroline: a man named Tucker Longstreet.
Blessed with the Longstreet good looks, lazy charm, and family fortune, Tucker is a tall, cool drink of water and he knows it. He likes to keep his romances short and shallow. But one look at Caroline, and Tucker realizes that she is unlike any other woman he's met. Tightly coiled and coolly reserved, Caroline is determined to fight him off. She might be able to do a better job if she hadn't felt an unexpected thrill at his ardent advances...and if she hadn't been so scared after finding a third murder victim in the murky waters behind her home.
For Caroline Waverly,a beautiful summer interlude could turn into much more or could stir a killer's crazed dreams. Because there's just one small problem with her new romance: Tucker is the leading suspect in the killings.
Angels Fall by Nora Roberts
Reece Gilmore has come a long way to see the stunning view below her. As the sole survivor of a brutal crime back East, she has been on the run, desperately fighting the nightmares and panic attacks that haunt her. Reece settles in Angel's Fist, Wyoming-temporarily, at least-and takes a job at a local diner. And now she's hiked this mountain all by herself. It was glorious, she thought, as she peered through her binoculars at the Snake River churning below. Then Reece saw the man and woman on the opposite bank. Arguing. Fighting. And suddenly, the man was on top of the woman, his hands around her throat . . .
Enjoying a moment of solitude a bit farther down the trail is a gruff loner named Brody. But by the time Reece reaches him and brings him to the scene, the pair has vanished. When authorities comb the area where she saw the attack, they find nothing. No signs of struggle. No freshly turned earth. Not even a tire track.
And no one in Angel's Fist seems to believe her. After all, she's a newcomer in town, with a reputation for being jumpy and jittery-maybe even a little fragile. Maybe it's time to run again, to move on . . .
Reece Gilmore knows there's a killer in Angel's Fist, even if Brody, despite his seeming impatience and desire to keep her at arm's length, is the only one willing to believe her. When a series of menacing events makes it clear that someone wants her out of the way, Reece must put her trust in Brody-and herself-to find out if there is a killer in Angel's Fist before it's too late.
The Witness by Nora Roberts
Elizabeth Fitch's short-lived teenage rebellion began with L'Oreal Pure Black, a pair of scissors, and a fake ID. It ended in blood...Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man's seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.
Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems. Her own security is supplemented by a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the quickest way to get attention in a tiny southern town.
The mystery of Abigail Lowery intrigues local police chief Brooks Gleason, on both a personal and professional level. Her sharp, logical mind, her secretive nature, her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something, even if he doesn't know what - and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed.
Accustomed to two-bit troublemakers, Gleason is about to walk into the sights of very powerful and dangerous men. And Abigail Lowery, who has built a life based on security and self-control, is at risk of losing both.

WalMart had this book carousel with $5 books. Oh, the temptation! But I was good and grabbed just one. I had no idea if this book (Silenced) was part of a series, a stand alone, or if I even already had it on my bookshelf but I got it anyway. Turns out it is part of a series and I already have the first 3 books. So it worked out perfectly.

I don't think any book in the series is as good as Dragon Bound but this last installment came pretty close. I think Storm's Heart had it's issues but it was still good :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree PH. I haven't liked any the of the books as much as I liked Dragon Bound. I haven't even read the last book. Since you say it came close to the first, maybe I'll check it out.
DeleteDragon Bound is going to be a hard book to beat.
DeleteGreat wants this week. I really enjoyed Angels Fall and I hope you get to read it soon. Your gots look just as great too, I've read Samantha Young before, but the others I have not, but I might have to give them a try!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read a single book by Nora Roberts yet. I keep adding her books to my TBR list and I'm not sure where to start.

I was totally bad today. I have not received a new book all week, although there are plenty in the mail :( So I bougt some new books solely for the covers! 4 books by Alix Rickloff. Only the first book was not available, so I will search for that one elsewhere. Hope they are good :)
ReplyDeleteCover love! I've been known to buy books for their cover :)
DeleteOoh, this meme is new to me and I like it! Maybe next week I will participate. I have a couple of the Nora Roberts, but haven't read them yet, but the other titles are all new to me. Enjoy your reading this week!
ReplyDeleteI did not know you were a Nora Roberts fan! I read so many of her books one summer in college. I would go to the library once a week, get seven books, and read a book a day. It was great! I read Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, David Baldacci, and John Grisham all summer long.
ReplyDeleteI'm not - at least not yet. I have yet to read a single book by Nora Roberts. I'm actually kind of intimidated. She has so many books out and I don't know where to start.
DeleteI've read all three of these Nora Roberts books and loved them. You can't go wrong with any of these titles. Carnal Innocence and Angels Fall were made into Lifetime movies.
ReplyDeleteI want the Love Is Murder Anthology
I'm not on the Nora Roberts wagon but I hope you get your wants soon!
ReplyDeleteI did a post-BEA post but haven't done my StS post yet. Maybe next weekend....
