He never saw her coming...

Spencer Lark already knows too many secrets about Arizona Storm, including the nightmare she survived and her resulting trust issues. But in order to expose a smuggling ring—and continue avenging his own tragic past—the bounty hunter reluctantly agrees to make Arizona a decoy. Yet nothing has equipped him for her hypnotic blend of fragility and bravery, or for the protective instincts she stirs in him.

Arizona wants to reclaim her life, which means acting as bait to lure the enemy into a trap. Sure it's dangerous, especially with a partner as distractingly appealing as Spencer. But as their plan—and their chemistry—shifts into high gear, Arizona may discover there's an even greater risk in surrendering her heart to a hero...

Why I Read this Book: I’ve now read all 4 books in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series (my reviews – When You Dare, Trace of Fever, and Savor the Danger) and I’m going to keep on reading them as long as Lori Foster keeps writing them. There’s more books to come in this series, right? Right?!?!

What I Liked: I really enjoy reading about alpha-male mercenaries. They’re large, they take charge, and they’re sexy as hell. And these guys work for a great cause - eliminating human trafficking. Spencer is not part of the ‘dynamic trio’ yet but he definitely measures up in all aspects.

I heart Chris. I love how he reads people. He’s made of awesome.

I had love/hate feelings towards Arizona. On the one hand, she was a tough-as-nails heroine with no fear though there’s a bit of vulnerability to her. I like that she spoke her mind. That woman has no mouth filter.

What I Didn’t Like: On the other hand, Arizona got on my nerves at times. I get it – she’s had a bad life, a really bad life. I didn’t connect with her character in any aspect and she’s not the type of heroine I like in my books. Her character was definitely broken but it wasn’t that. There was something else about her that annoyed me, part of her personality (probably result of her upbringing) but I can’t exactly put my finger on it. There was also a major lack of communication between Arizona and Spencer and too much denial on both sides.

There was just too much focus on Arizona’s 'rehabilitation' which overshadowed everything else going on in this book. The suspense element took a back seat in this one.

The pages were running out and there was still one last conflict that needed to be worked out. I started to panic a bit, thinking it was going to be rushed. It turned out to be just meh. The suspense element throughout this book was underwhelming.

Overall Impression: I enjoyed A Perfect Storm for the most part though it wasn’t my favorite book in the series (that honor goes to Trace of Fever). And while this book didn’t live up to its three predecessors for me, I would still recommend those who are reading this series to read this book.

  1. So don't start the series on this book, huh? I've been debating the series so maybe I'll try the others.

    1. I wouldn't start here. If this had been the first book, I probably wouldn't have read the rest of the series. I enjoyed the first 3 books (#2 was my fave) much better than I did this one.

  2. Glad to read your review. The blurb made it sound like a heart-pounding winner, so I'm glad not to waste time on it, knowing that it's not what I would expect.

    1. No pounding hearts over here. Not for this one. But I do recommend reading the first 3 books in this series (if you haven't already). You could stop after book #3, though you'll probably be curious about Arizona's character like I was :)
