BBAW Daily Topic: Community Part II

The world of book blogging has grown enormously and sometimes it can be hard to find a place. Share your tips for finding and keeping community in book blogging despite the hectic demands made on your time and the overwhelming number of blogs out there. If you’re struggling with finding a community, share your concerns and explain what you’re looking for–this is the week to connect!

I wish I could say that I manage my time well but that is so not the case. I’ve tried setting a schedule for myself but things don’t exactly work according to plan, especially when you have kids. And I know things are definitely going to change once baby #3 makes her debut.

I’m on Twitter just about every day. What can I say, I can’t help myself! It’s an addiction – Twitter is my playground. I have to see what everyone’s up to, what they’re reading, what they’re recommending, what they’re posting about, etc. Whoever said Twitter’s the biggest time sucker wasn’t kidding!

I go through my Google Reader just about every day as well. I can’t keep myself off that site for the life of me. I should limit myself to every other day or a few times a week but my OCD side wants to keep it clean and clear and under control.

  1. I spend a lot of time on Google Reader, too, since it's where I keep track of all the blogs that interest me, organized in the most logical way I can come up with! I'm forever tinkering with it to find a more efficient system. Twitter, on the other hand, is hard for me, though I know lots of people love it. It's so overwhelming!

The key for me and Twitter is not to go too crazy on following. I try to only follow those who I converse with. You can also makes lists of people to follow, so you can check in with them from time to time. I use lists for people who watch the same TV shows I do :)

I need to be a better commenter as well. I read a lot of posts but I'm mostly a lurker. I need to de-lurk! LOL I'm trying to make Friday 'comment day'. I'm making my rounds today :)

Twitter is a major time sucker. There are times when I could be reading a book but I'm on Twitter instead. It's so addicting!

  7. While I have Google Reader, I haven't read it in... years. Literally. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've only actually opened it up maybe once. Or twice. It's confusing, fills up too quickly, and I don't really like it. I far prefer having new posts emailed to me. Yes, my inbox fills up QUICKLY, but my email also goes directly to my phone, which I'm never ever without. I also have internet on my phone, so I can see the posts no matter where I'm at. The only problem is, I don't always have time to post responses to the posts. :( But I do get to read them, so at least there's that. :)

I tweet ALL THE TIME. Well, not so much while I'm at school since we're not allowed to have our phones on in class and not at all on our person while we're in clinicals, but when I'm not at school, I'm constantly on Twitter. It's an addiction.

Scheduling. Sigh. How I wish I could set a schedule and stick to it. I try to make one, but I don't often get to read books as quickly or as often as I'd like to these days (again, because of school). Lately, if it's not on audio or school-related, I can't even think about touching it. So the review books I've promised fall to the wayside and the dates I originally scheduled in my mind have come and gone. Thank God I don't ever promise authors firm dates or I'd be really screwed!

I do, however, write a ton of reviews at the same time (usually when I go on a reading spree) and schedule them to post. So that's some kind of schedule, right? :)

I don't know if I could sub by email to all the blogs I follow. I think I would quickly get overwhelmed. I like Google Reader because I can 'star' a post to read later.

I wish I could set a schedule and stick to it as well. That would be nice.
