Series: Ganzfield, #3
Author: Kate Kaynak
Genre: Paranormal Romance, YA

Maddie has more problems than the average seventeen-year-old: A psychotic killer with superpowers wants her dead. A serious medical issue makes a "normal life" impossible. And she's about to be introduced to Trevor's family. Guess which one freaks her out the most?
Why I Read this Book: I’ve been hooked on this series ever since I first read Minder (book one). And I’ve been dying to read Legacy ever since I saw the cover for it. *gasp* There’s a baby on the cover! Is that Maddie’s baby?!! Things that make you go hmmm….
What I Liked: The author has created this fascinating world with well-developed characters that are likeable and in some ways, relatable. I feel like I’m a fly on the wall, watching everything going on. I enjoyed the introduction of Belinda, a new character brought to Ganzfield. I don’t like Belinda’s character but I love the tension she brings to the table. She definitely knows how to stir up the pot. She jeopardizes Maddie’s and Trevor’s relationship by implanting false memories into Trevor’s mind. Tsk tsk Belinda.
For the first time in this series, the author has ended this book with a cliffhanger – and I liked it! The showdown at the end was heart pounding intense; I found myself holding my breath a few times. I wasn’t a fan of Zack’s character in the last book but this time around he proved himself brilliant with his tactical planning. And speaking of Zack, there’s a new romance blossoming at Ganzfield.
It’s worth mentioning (again) that I love the ‘previously at Ganzfield’ recap the author provides the reader at the beginning of each book. I never feel lost or unsure when I start the next book in this series thanks to this recap. I’d love to see more authors do this, especially in series that are over 3 books long. It’s hard to remember every important detail that has happened, especially when we readers read a lot of other books in between books in a particular series.
What I Didn’t Like: There’s nothing I don’t like about this book or this series. It just gets better and better with each book.
Overall Impression: There is no slowing down for Kate Kaynak. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, Accused. Thank goodness it comes out this July because I can’t wait to see what happens!! I don’t think this author, nor her books, get the recognition they deserve. This is a must-read for fans of YA paranormal. The world building and attention to details will appeal to fans of Harry Potter. There’s action, suspense, a bit of romance and there’s also a smidge of a science fiction element going on. The author keeps the storyline going by adding fresh characters and new obstacles which leaves me eager for the next book. If you haven’t read Minder (my review) or Adversary (my review), I highly recommend you do and ASAP. You don’t want to miss out on this incredible YA Paranormal series.
Brianna’s Rating:
The way you have described this book certainly makes it sound appealing in many ways. I have to admit though, that I have never heard of Kate Kaynak and haven't read her others. Also I will admit that the cover does nothing for me... perhaps this is one of the reasons she hasn't had the recognition she deserves. Readers might not be seeing past the covers? (I haven't seen the other covers though).
ReplyDeleteI will certainly add this to my TBR pile though. Thanks!
I just finished Minder. I won it in a contest and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the great review.
ReplyDeleteSuzy - This is definitely an example of don't judge a book by its cover. The covers didn't grab me at first either but the written word did. I believe in May there will be a release of the first 3 books (Minder, Adversary and Legacy) in a single volume with a new cover. You can check it out here. I'm glad you'll be adding it to your TBR pile. It really is a great series :)
ReplyDeleteI thought as much! I have added the new book with all three included to my TBR. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI am horrible, but the cover is just so bleh! I should know better
ReplyDeleteOkay, you've convinced me! I just went and bought Minder for Nook---only $2.99. Can't pass that up!
