AUTHOR INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY [CLOSED]: H.P. Mallory

Hi Ms. Mallory. Thanks for joining us! Could you tell us a little about yourself?

H.P. Mallory: Sure, I’m 33 and married with a 17 month old son. I lived in the UK for two years—Cambridge, England and Edinburgh, Scotland. And I started writing Fire Burn in Cambridge and Warlock in Scotland. Now I live in California.

fireburn I love your book covers for Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble and To Kill a Warlock! They're very eye-catching. Did you have a say or a part in creating the covers?

H.P. Mallory: Well, I had total say because I designed them! LOL While the art was outsourced, I got to piece them together and add the text, etc.

That is awesome that you had a say in the creative aspect of your covers. They really do look great! What was your road to publication like?

H.P. Mallory: Well, I’ve really paved my own way to publication. I started with a huge NY agent who repped some of the biggest names in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance such as Jeaniene Frost and Ilona Andrews. While my agent was sending my book out to various publishers, the economy tanked and with it went my chances of landing a great publisher. So, after that, I lost touch with my agent and sat on my books for about a year or so. Then I decided to take matters into my own hands and published them on Amazon. That was back in July and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve really been thrilled by the success I’ve experienced thus far and by the reaction to my books. It seems that the road for indie authors is really broadening with indies such as Zoe Winters and Amanda Hocking leading the way. It’s been an incredible adventure and I’m so glad I made this decision.

warlock What was the most challenging aspect of writing these books and how did you overcome that challenge?

H.P. Mallory: The most challenging thing is the writing itself. Finding the time really is the toughest challenge. My solution? Waking up at 5 am every morning so I can get some time to myself. I also put myself on a pretty strict schedule to make sure I stay on time with my writing.

thumbnail trouble What can we expect to see from you in the future? Are you currently working on any projects?

H.P. Mallory: I’m currently working on the follow up book to Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, titled Toil and Trouble. I’ll release this book on Jan 1. I’m also working on a graphic novel version of To Kill A Warlock but that is currently in its infancy and I don’t have a release date for it yet.

What are 5 things most people do not know about you?

H.P. Mallory:

  1. My favorite movie is Gone With the Wind
  2. Halloween is my favorite holiday [ Happy Halloween! ]
  3. My favorite urban fantasy series is the Sookie Stackhouse series followed closely by the early Anita Blake books
  4. One of my favorite books is The Art of Racing in the Rain
  5. One of my biggest joys is traveling
