Today I have Tricia Rayburn here as part of the Siren Blog Tour. Siren was released on July 13th, 2010. I am very excited to have Tricia stop by today. Please welcome Tricia Rayburn!
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself.
I write stories for ‘tweens and young adults, including the Maggie Bean books, Ruby’s Slippers, and the Siren trilogy. I live on eastern Long Island with my husband and crazy shih tzu.
What is the writing process like for you?
When I’m first struck by a new idea, I take notes on potential characters, storylines, and settings. If I have enough of those—including solid ideas for the beginning, climax, and end—I dive into the first chapter. If that goes well, I continue brainstorming and usually start writing again once I have the next five or so chapters outlined. Then I alternate outlining and writing until I reach the end!
What was the most challenging aspect of Siren?
Suspending reality. I’d never written anything but contemporary realistic fiction before, so diving into the supernatural/paranormal was definitely a first. I had a lot of thoughts like, “No one’s going to buy that” and “This doesn’t make sense…does it?” and “That’s impossible!” Fortunately, I was able to tune out those enough to finish the book!
What can we expect to see from you in the near future?
Siren’s sequel will be out next summer, and the third book in the trilogy will be out the summer after that. I’m also working on a fun new middle-grade idea.
Tell us 5 things most people might not know about you.
- I usually watch one episode of Gilmore Girls every single weekday
- A very long time ago, I took Polish dancing lessons
- I have a United States-shaped birthmark on my upper left arm
- When I was little, I wanted to live in my Strawberry Shortcake dollhouse
- I spend a LOT of time writing with Yanni and Enya on in the background!
Thank you Tricia for stopping by!

I'm really interested in reading Siren. I like reading about the writing processes of authors since I have way too much trouble keeping up any sort of writing at all. It's ridiculous. I'm so intrigued by the U.S. birthmark- how funny!
