On My Wishlist (34)

on_my_wishlist

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. If you want to know more click here.

singmetosleep Sing Me to Sleep by Angela Morrison

I was taking a poll on Twitter; I had an Amazon gift card to use and wanted feedback as to what book I should get. Lisa suggested Sing Me to Sleep. I was a bit apprehensive because I thought I had read the blurb before and had decided that this book wasn’t for me. Good thing I re-read the blurb because it was nothing like I thought it was! And thus, it has landed on my wishlist.

THE TRANSFORMATION

Beth has always been “The Beast”—that’s what everyone at school calls her because of her awkward height, facial scars, and thick glasses. Beth’s only friend is geeky, golden-haired Scott. That is, until she’s selected to be her choir’s soprano soloist, and receives the makeover that will change her life forever.

THE LOVE AFFAIR

When Beth’s choir travels to Switzerland, she meets Derek: pale, brooding, totally dreamy. Derek’s untethered passion—for music, and for Beth—leaves her breathless. Because in Derek’s eyes? She’s not The Beast, she’s The Beauty.

THE IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE

When Beth comes home, Scott, her best friend in the world, makes a confession that leaves her completely torn. Should she stand by sweet, steady Scott or follow the dangerous, intense new feelings she has for Derek?

THE HEARTBREAK

The closer Beth gets to Derek, the further away he seems. Then Beth discovers that Derek’s been hiding a dark secret from her …one that could shatter everything.

thehost The Host by Stephenie Meyer

I’m stepping outside my comfort zone with this one. I don’t do aliens. I don’t do sci-fi. But people are raving about this book, particularly the romance in it. I will give this one a try. If the sci-fi element becomes overbearing, I may have to give it up. But I will at least take a stab at it.

The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.--From publisher description.

  1. I am not a big sci-fi fan either but I LOVE The Host! It is a love story that happens in a sci-fi book, it's not really sci-fi-ish. I think you will love it too. You have to give it about 150 pages because it can be confusing up until that point. But it is so worth it!

I'm so tempted to read The Host, but I've heard the heroine is very much like Bella Swan and Bella Swan annoys me to know end, but I still may give it a try.

I'm still working through The Twilight Saga and that's been a slow painful process for me.

Good choices! I thought Sing Me to Sleep was a great tear-jerker. And, while it might be heresy to say so, I liked The Host better than the Twilight series. I liked the more adult feel. Happy reading!

I really really enjoyed The Host! It took me a little while to get into and get past the very sci-fi beginning, but despite how anyone feels about Twilight, Stephenie writes character relationships beautifully. Once I was 100 pages in, I couldn't stop and fell in love with Jared and Ian:) I can't wait to see what you think!

  7. The main character is very different from Bella, you'll be happy if you're wanting a stronger female lead. I agree that the beginning is sci-fi but the rest of it really isn't. You'll fall in love with both of the guys in this one...I did!

The Host was pretty good but it needed editing in the middle. I hope you get your wishlist books. Here's what I'm wishing for.
