Usually when an author participates in a blog tour or an author interview there are bound to be duplicate questions. Lauren came up with a fabulous idea for a blog tour: the One Question Interview. With the One Question Interview, you won't be seeing the same question twice! And I knew just what to ask her.
You have a unique last name and have mentioned that people almost always pronounce it incorrectly. How should it be pronounced?
It's the Baratz part that people really stumble over. They always want to say "Ba-RATS" like I might be rodent-infested here. In reality, it sounds like if you took the Barrett in Elizabeth Barrett Browning and made it plural: Barretts. Oh, and Logsted? People have no problem pronouncing that part but they do always want to shoehorn an 'a' into it so that it reads "Logstead." I'm always getting fan mail for The Sisters 8 series for young readers in which the little scribes address me, "Ms. Baratz-Logstead, I am your biggest fan!" A part of me thinks, 'You've read five books in the series and still haven't noticed the proper spelling of my name?' But a far bigger part of me thinks, 'Who cares how you spell my stupid name? You're sending me fan mail!!!' And so ends this exhaustive seminar on how to say and write my one-of-a-kind last name.
Thanks Lauren for stopping by! Lauren has 4 books coming out this year. I've highlighted two of them below for you to check out.

Where to find the author
The Sisters Eight Book 5: Marcia's Madness (available now!)
Lauren says "The fifth in the series for young readers aged 6-10 that I created with my novelist husband Greg Logsted and our 10-year-old daughter Jackie".
Questions! Questions! Questions! The Sisters Eight have so many questions and so few answers! Luckily, one more month means one more Eight will learn her power and her gift which means one more step closer to discovering what happened to Mommy and Daddy. Marcia’s month is about to begin. You remember Marcia, right? The sensible one? The one who would never do anything…crazy?

Lauren says "My next YA, set in Victorian England."
Bet is sixteen, very intelligent, but only knows as much as her limited education will allow. In Victorian England, girls aren't allowed to go to school.
Will is also 16, and though not related by blood, he and Bet act like brother and sister. In fact, they even look like brother and sister. And though they're both raised under the same roof, by the same kind uncle, Will has one big advantage over Bet: He's a boy, and being a boy means he isn't stuck in the grand house they call home. He gets to go out into the world--to school.
But that's not what Will wishes. He wants to join the military and learn about real life, not what's written in books.
But once Bet gets to the school, she begins to realize the education she's going to get isn't exactly the one she was expecting.
Pre-order the book
This year we're looking forward to both your Middle School release, The Sisters Eight Book 5: Marcia's Madness and your YA release, The Education of Bet. If I were to sit down with your main character from each book, and ask them to describe their book to me, how would they describe their story?

One question--great idea for a tour! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI loved Crazy Beautiful and I read The Education of Bet back when Crazy Beautiful came out. I did a review on it like 5 months ago. LOVED IT! This author rocks in writing!
ReplyDeleteMy interview with her also posted about 4 months ago. She is super nice!
I even think I have parts of my reviews on her site!
Great question!
