Meme: The Book Vixen's Reading Style

Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback?
Mass market paperback. They're usually the cheapest, allowing me to buy more books. More books equals one happy Vixen :)

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Barnes & Noble. There are more B&N around and it just feels huge! I love being surrounded by books. I especially love 2-level B&N's. I once went to a 3-level B&N where I got to meet Candace Bushnell and she signed my copy of One Fifth Avenue.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
I have to admit, I am guilty of dog-earring. *ducks* I try not to now. I even bought an Edward bookmark to keep myself from dog-earring.

Amazon or brick-and-mortar?
Amazon! It's cheaper and faster. I'm all about saving the green to get more books.

Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random?
I don't have a book shelf at the moment so my books are all over the place. When I do get one, I will probably organize them by genre and author.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep - if it's a good book. Swap - if it's a book if I didn't enjoy. I would never throw away a book; I'd donate it to the library. Someone out there would want to read it, right?

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
Toss a dust jacket? Never! Who throws away the dust jacket? That's just unthinkable.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
I take it off until I am finished with the book so that it doesn't get ruined when I shove it in and out of my purse. But it'll go right back on when I'm all done.

Short story or novel?
Either or.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
HP because I haven't read LS.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I stop reading when I'm tired. I read to the point where my eyelids can't even stay open.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
It was a dark and stormy night....

Buy or borrow?
Buy. I'm possessive. Although, I would like to check out book swapping.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
All of the above. I'm all about first impressions so it's usually the book cover or title that draws me in first. The book blurb is the deciding factor. If I'm iffy about the book after reading the book blurb, then I'll check out book reviews on Goodreads. I'm always open to recommendations. Fiction Vixen knows what I like and what I'm into so she'll throw recommendations my way and I'll do the same.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
I like a good cliffhanger. I don't like the waiting period if the next book hasn't been released yet but I kind of like hanging in the balance.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
If I could, I'd read all day and all night. But since I have obligations to tend to (don't we all?) that usually only leaves time to read at night. And maybe a little bit on the weekends.

Stand-alone or series?
Both. I really don't have a preferrence. Although I am not likely to read thru a series more than 10 books deep.

Favorite series?
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Hot alpha-vampire males in leather. Need I say more? Oh, and the sex. Hot vampire sex.

Favorite children’s book?
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I still get teary eye reading it. Short and simple yet it carries a strong message.

Favorite YA book?
This is going to sound so cliche but I'd have to say that Twilight is my favorite YA book. I was drawn in from the beginning and it stayed with me for months. It was difficult for me to move on. Pathetic, I know.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
The Wednesday Letters by Jason F. Wright.

Favorite books read last year?
Message in a Bottle and A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. I was going through my Nicholas Sparks phase. I still have a few of his books on my to-read. I think he has a new book coming out soon...

Favorite books of all time?

The Notebook and Twilight

What are you reading right now?
Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward.

What are you reading next?
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I am so excited to read this! Two friends of mine have raved about this book. I went and saw the movie before reading the book which is not how I wanted to do things. But hopefully having the visuals will make a bit easier to follow along when I read it.

Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old?
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Or the Harry Potter series.

Favorite book to re-read?
I'm not a re-reader but I will be rereading Twilight, Midnight Sun and New Moon (in that order) before the New Moon movie debuts on 11/20/2009.

Do you ever smell books?
Yes.

Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries?
No.
